Twitter just doing a "redirect links in tweets that go to x.com to twitter.com instead but accidentally do so for all domains that end x.com like eg spacex.com going to spacetwitter.com" is not absolutely the funniest thing I could imagine but it's high up there

Open source development is a pretty good argument for implementing UBI.

@ramsey the scale of the boost The Commons may get from UBI is hard to even imagine, not only in software but in many other areas

Ok, this is a smart workaround to avoid unnecessary polyfills on your projects. It always bothered me to have no way to avoid symfony/polyfill-mbstring and symfony/polyfill-ctype even though my systems always have the necessary extensions. Well, this fixes that :)

My first is finally live! @LaDiaria posts news from the πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Ύ newspaper @ladiaria directly from their RSS feed. As bots go, it's really simple but the reason I'm so happy is that's running from my own implementation of an compatible server made with and . There's still plenty of work to do, but for now, the basics are there and I wanted to test it in the wild.

So, after a post* from @a , I introduce you to

@Wikipedia_EN_alerts

It checks every half an hour articles that belong to the category "All articles proposed for deletion" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:All_articles_proposed_for_deletion ) AND to "All articles with topics of unclear notability" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:All_articles_with_topics_of_unclear_notability ) and post a random one from the list.

I feel that I could add other alerts to it so if anybody has an interesting use case lmk and I can look into it.

As always, all suggestions welcome!

tl;dr: upgrade glibc on your servers!

Summing it up, there's a vulnerability (CVE-2024-2961) on glibc that, apparently, can be used to get RCE on servers running PHP.
It's recommended that you update glibc to a patched version.

https://security-tracker.debian.org/tracker/CVE-2024-2961
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=CVE-2024-2961

There's an upcoming talk on May 10 where the researcher will explain how it was used to hack PHP servers.

@tieflingdiotima @alttexthalloffame @spaceninja something I help with every time I can in case you don't feel like with enough energy to do it yourself is reply to requests. You tag your post with it, somebody helps and then you can edit the original with the provided description or use it as a base.

Does anybody on the fedi Laravel community knows Aaron Francis? It's really sad that his (awesome) fast-paginate package seems abandoned like this, maybe just a statement acknowledging he can't/doesn't want to maintain it anymore can make the community fork it to keep it maintained. This L11 support PR has been opened and unanswered for 2 months already.
