Heirloom rug is THE place to be according to one of our cats. Pet him anywhere else and he’ll dash down the hall to collapse on this rug in hopes you’ll get the hint. Tympanic patting takes it to 11.

Dropped the car off at shop and walked the 4 miles home via random trails/animal paths through the woods. Which means, more fungi!

One of the old chickens laid that monster egg and for some reason it got me wondering if spies ever used eggs for secret messages. I was thinking some kind of chicken “port” to insert in the egg making process, but a web search finds less intrusive ways.

Another method women spies employed was to slip little messages into raw eggs. In preparation, the egg is soaked in vinegar to soften its shell. Once suitably soft, the egg is cut into with a knife, making a small slit. From there, a small slip of paper is able to be folded over and slipped into the egg, which is then placed in cold water to re-harden its shell. While the method is quite simple, the idea behind it is ingenious: who would think to inspect a basket of eggs?
"To make inscriptions on eggs. From Africanus. Grind up oak gall and alum with vinegar until it reaches the thickness of black ink. Use it to write whatever you want on the egg. Once the writing has dried in the sun, place the egg into a sharp brine. Once it has dried, boil it, and when you have peeled it, you will find the inscription."
