So when #Bluesky adds federation and there is a bridge into the fediverse is there anything stopping it from becoming part of the #fediverse? Reply now to start a hell thread!
@Jdreben I don't think there is any reason for us to even be able to know if we are talking to someone on Bluesky or Nostr after real bridges are made. I can already tag a Nostr user @76c71aae3a491f1d9eec47cba17e22@mostr.pub (this is @rabble on the other side) and they get a notification in Nostr and can reply from a totally different network.
@Jdreben what do you feel they are giving up on Bluesky? It is also just as open source as ActivityPub so curious what folks thoughts are here. I am >personally< on team fedi and I understand where alot of folks are coming from in the disdain for something that is not coming from the underground like the fediverse is.
How would y'all like to see an invite-only Fediverse instance specifically for Fediverse projects? The idea's been bouncing around in my head for a bit but a comment today got me really thinking about the idea. :fediverse:
@kainoa@gabek I would love to see this as well. would you think it would mostly be for "brand" accounts like @Owncast or accounts like that? or for anyone working on fedi dev?
I don't know how many of you are following this explosian of social media protocol development but the current space is moving at an incredible pace and I am truly excited to see where this all goes. I honestly don't know what the future holds. I really would love a way to follow anyone I want from one interface, but I feel like we are actually getting Farther away from that potential at the moment. We need our own "Department of Bridges" like @matrix has.
renewing domains and thinking about where this money is going and how FUUUUCCKKED this system is. I am really down for more work to go into alt DNS roots but it seems the only work is going into crypto based dns which is also financially controlled. is this really the best system? I would say no. Its not stopping spam or abuse so what IS its point other then lining the pockets of domain registrars
just spent 24$ to renew https://wake.st for another year and quite honestly I am loosing faith in the DNS system entirely and dont think its the best direction at all.
@thenewoil hey @nextcloud just tried to login to the iOS app for this listed on the bottom of the official blog post and it fails to login with no error notification and then takes me to an empty notebook where I can take notes but see that they are not synched with anything.
how much of a bubble do we have to be in, to see Twitter as the biggest platform that needs an alternative? I am glad that @pixelfed is trying but we need a wayyyy bigger push in that direction. 90% of my friends AFK mainly use instagram for all communication online.
Need to find a sim card I can buy in person in new orleans, louisiana. today, only need data, and only need 2 weeks of service. Any recommendations? (looking for cheapest option, could probably get by with 1gb of data)
I lost a domain I have had and have been using since 2015 since I didn't see the expiration email and it seems the only registrar is freenom which is down indefinitely. any ideas how to reacquire a .gq domain name?
@MonaApp just released and I purchased the Mona Pro Max version for 2200 yen which gives a lifetime multi-platform license - a bargain at twice the price. I’ve been using the beta for a few days now and really like it so far! Highly recommended.
Like, cool. Free stuff.
Im actually hesitant to accept. Idk if I really like the idea of assimilating a computer even closer to my person than my phone already is.
It will probably just be a distraction. But idk. It might be useful.
Wondering what other #smartWatch owners might have to say.
I know @benjaminhollon has a smart watch. Made by frameworks maybe??? :thaenkin:
the fragmentation of the decentralized microblogging space is real. but there are real ways we can address this already. I think the path forward that really needs to take place is that software like https://elk.zone and https://pinafore.social need to support more protocols then just #ActivityPub
@Jonathanglick@jimcarroll@tchambers@rabble@76c71aae3a491f1d9eec47cba17e22@mostr.pub just an FYI, I was totally not saying any of this is ready for prime time, as they say. But I think its interesting to see how these things could potentially work now that we are in an enviroment that there are multiple competing open standards for microblogging out in the wild that actually have some people using them on the regular
