if you're not in the path of totality and don't have special glasses you might want to go to someplace where the shadows from trees or other plants are very clear, like on concrete or walls. the shadows from partial eclipses are really interesting

A helpful framing of for "we replaced our X with AI" is "we stopped offering X". When your mobile operator replaced online support with AI, they just stopped doing online support.

Capybaras are a good counterexample to "cute things are just things with baby lookin features."

Update: internet back - apparently our Comcast cable modem was ancient and needed replacement. But I have a new problem now. The router’s built-in wifi is a bajillion times faster than my external wifi router. But it’s at the far end of the apartment, and the range sucks. And more to the point - wtf, the router is a Wirecutter recommendation from less than a year ago.

I’d wondered about why it’s so common for human body temperature readings now to be below 98.6 (I often can’t break 98 unless really sick)…and it’s because the numbers that were used to make the original 98.6 figure were from a time when people were constantly infected with TB and other illnesses that are now much better controlled and less common. Their bodies were inflamed as hell.
