A word about left-wing conspiracy theories.

Yesterday I sent about 10 people to this page because they were saying the same untrue things about Merrick Garland that I disproved here with facts:

https://terikanefield.com/can-democracy-work-in-america-part-iii-an-msnbc-cnn-conspiracy-theory-and-the-perils-of-legal-punditry/

That's when I realized a new Merrick Garland conspiracy theory had taken hold.

My initial reaction was pure irritation.

A knew what it would take to disprove it. . .

What are your favorite not well known little historical things?

Like car manufacturers inventing the term and concept of jaywalking for example.

Is there a term for news about things that are not big or obvious like volcanoes, elections, sports, or wars? But events, maybe less visible or striking, that point to how things are shaping up? Things that have influence that insiders know about?

If so, what's that called? If not, and you post about something that fits that description, may I suggest hashtaging it Thanks.

Is there a word in any language for the sadness and ennui felt by people who have moved around lots and everybody they know and love live in different places, far from each other, and most of those people don't know each other so they rarely see them and are never surrounded by close people?

mmm,

@NatureMC This may be the closest. But again implies that there is an original location that you've been removed from, but the real problem is the dispersal of the friends not your location or move.

    Prediction for 2024: MORE ARRESTS.

People have been discussing how there is an unusual amount of war, fascism, and corruption in 2023. Yup, that's true. But something else too.

COP28 in Dubai showed us that oil companies and oil producing countries will fight the real solution to climate change, which is to stop using fossil fuels as quickly as possible, any possible way then can. They will not be part of the solution and must be pushed into it by governments, which must be pushed into it by us. Meanwhile corrupt, incompetent regimes like the Tories in the UK pass laws that if you hold up a sign that says STOP OIL, you will be arrested.

    mmm,

Clearly they are afraid of a climate focused groundswell. Now is the time to give it to them.

The only thing that will stop Bibi Netanyahu's Isreal from killing Palestinians is if Israelis start refusing in large numbers to serve in the military or to bomb civilians. Hundreds are already doing that and more will join. Netanyahu survived months of enormous demonstrations against his takeover of the judiciary and he is still trying to take it over in order to conceal his own corruption and avoid prison under the cover of war.

@dancinyogi milk of magnesia is a much better deodorant than all commercial deodorants. It's cheap, a big bottle lasts for months or you can easily make it at home. Decant into smaller bottles and carry in your gym or ditty bag. Particularly good if you have sensitive skin. Doesn't discolor or stain clothes, even Marino wool. And you'll smell lovely.

Today is the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. I only learned this year that the Great Bengali Famine of 1770 was a precipitating factor in the protest, and so I collaborated with my historian colleague, Dr. Robert Martello, to share the globe-spanning story of colonialism and corporate power that we think should be much more widely known.

The “industry standard” modules used in digital braille displays are custom piezoelectric devices, costing around $100 per “letter,” making such displays impractically expensive for most applications.

I just learned about this hackaday prize winner, who has designed digital, refreshable #braille modules that cost less than $1 each, using teeny-tiny magnets and 3D printed parts.
