I think the original was a good photo before it got stretchied and I think it's less manipulated otherwise than I originally thought. A lot of what looked like manip at first is probably just changes in light and angle.)

okay electrodons I got a weird one

Standard single-gang duplex receptacle on a 15A circuit. Upgraded to code circa 25 years ago by pros known to do good work in general. (To be clear: not me.) It's in a metal box with wiring in metal conduit back to the panel.

Stops working. No drama, just stops. Everything upstream to the box is fine; the breaker doesn't trip. All looks well, just... no power.

Remove the cover. It is immediately obvious that there is loose plastic hanging around in the box.

Pull out the fixture, discover chunks of plastic have come off the side of the receptacle. It's broken away in multiple pieces with sharp edges, not melted. No burns near the damage, no external damage.

And so I ask:

What the fuck?

Seriously, what the fuck? The outlet does not appear to be physically stressed. The box is square, the fixture was square inside it.

Elsewhere on the fixture there's what looks like some shorting that I suspect happened after the fixture was suddenly in several different pieces with parts no longer properly connected, but it was clearly also transient given that it wasn't tripping the breaker, otherwise drawing power, or even warm.

It's the kind of thing that says "factory defect" to me in some ways, but... for "factory defect" that thing held on a good long time, and what made it happen now? It wasn't really even in use, it just stopped working.

Anyway, I got nothin' so speculate away.

hey mastodonians!

should I put grease in these bearings? they’re not sealed. I have some pretty heavy silicone grease, is that good?

(There’s a little rust, it’s not bad, I’ll treat it.)

eta: I put in some silicone through the gaps and now I give the wheels a spin and they goes for like 30 seconds before I get bored and stop it by hand so that's pretty good I think. Thanks replyers!

Version 4 Hybrid Dragon bike cargo hitch adapter. Substantially different to Version 3, obviously. This one accepts a U-shaped piece of bent metal rod that I already have.

The point of this one is that Version 3 is excellent but printing it in metal is hundreds of dollars.
