I've said repeatedly that no one will ever give up nuclear weapons again after Ukraine - and that salvaging any hope of nuclear proliferation control was one of the many reasons Russia needs to lose this war.

Putin knows this, of course, but obviously doesn't care. Now they (and China) have functionally ended sanctions against North Korea over its nuclear weapons programme, and it strikes me as rather unlikely they'd tolerate a new such regime against any other dictatorial state trying to insure its longevity through nuclear weapons.

I was in a discussion today with @TechConnectify and @feditips about reply toxicity here, and I've tried to make all of that into a coherent post.

I want to go to #MastoDev with a version of this, but need to let it sit overnight and probably rewrite it. But I also think it's something anyone interested in non-corporate-controlled social media needs to think about, because a fair number of people go "influencers, fuck 'em" and that's... not how I think this needs to be understood. If you don't care about them, fine, but care about their followers who will follow them away.

Because like it or not, if you want to go against corporate-owned social media, you need these people too.

I haven’t posted much about all this because as I told @annathepiper weeks ago:

Israel is going to push the entire Gaza strip into the sea and there is absolutely nothing* anyone can do to stop it.

And yeah it is more complicated than that but it’s also no more complicated than “we’re done with getting rocketed all the time, even with Iron Dome, and then you-know-what happened”

and it’s not fair and it’s not right

and it’s still going to happen, and is happening.

It’s one of those times I really want(ed) to be wrong but was awfully sure I wasn’t.

Yassir Arafat never missed about opportunity to miss an opportunity, and now here we are, and there is nothing I can do about it.

Today in the Superbowl Jesus series, we discuss the Racism Triptych, the centrepiece of which is the most overtly racist image on television since at least Bush I's "Willie Horton" ad.

It's so racist that while I'm not Christian, I'm pretty sure mainstream Christianity would consider it actual blasphemy.

It may seem questionable to hang this much on imagery that has clearly been through the AI machine. My response is that these images were carefully chosen as part of a billion-dollar ad campaign, and in all the areas they care about, the symbolism is specific, precise, and clear.

And by the gods I am holding them responsible.

I know that some people here are going to see a #cybertruck and be mad that someone actually bought one of these things.

Be mad if you want, but don't act mad at them. At least, not visibly.

Laugh at the truck, in that "oh my gods, you actually bought one of those stupid things?" way. In that "trying not to be seen laughing at you but I can't stop oh my gods it's so stupid looking I can't believe it's real" kind of way.

If you're with a friend, suppress a laugh, poke your friend and get them to look and have them try not to laugh in that "oh my gods I'm so embarrassed for you" way.

Because let's face it: it is hilarious.

And a lot of Muskovites, they're fine with angry strangers.

Being laughed at, though?

the headline is "ransomware," the bigger exploit is lying to the user about applied torque so that they inadequately torque bolts.

like on those boeing 737-MAX-9 just now.

are these used in aircraft assembly and maintenance? because one of the things they were able to do was change bolt tightness while making it look correct on the screen.

has this been quietly exploited already? is this already a zero-day?

I made a bigger holder for the mailbox key which makes it - like the others - kind of click into place when fully flicked out of the holder.

Also reprinted the holder on its side and turns out that works fine! And hides more or less all the layers. Much nicer. :D
