Having been around a lot of people with eating disorders, and having dealt with disordered eating myself, I find it really troubling how often I see fasting or intermittent fasting recommended by serious nutrition outlets, and just random people who are not nutritionists or educated in food science at all. This is one of the major symptoms of eating disorders, and it's just calorie restriction. There have been several studies done proving it doesn't work any better than just regular calorie restriction, as well as not actually maintaining
weight loss in the long term, and many more linking it to eating disorders, confusion, and loss of muscle mass. Studies are increasingly showing that it's not only triggering disordered eating in people who already have the issue, but creating new eating disorders especially in younger people, who need steady nutrients for healthy growth. This just feels dangerous and irresponsible.

@RickiTarr it’s almost like the food and diet industries are one and the same with vested interest in keeping people stuck in an endless cycle of binging and starvation for profit

Hot take: John McClane is the true villain in . He routinely brags about being in trouble with his captain for breaking the rules and much of his behaviour is borderline psychotic and something you’d expect of a serial killer.

Hans Gruber is the hero of the film robbing a huge corporation of a sum that would probably take them less than a week to recoup and who would stop at nothing to protect the bottom line.

Amazon should either sell to someone who will give a shit about it, or shutter the site completely. It's been a dumpster fire for years and this latest review bomb scandal just underpins what a dumpster fire Amazon has turned it into.

For an alternative I recommend (which is what I use) or which is a service that I've dabbled in but found I prefer Storygraph. That does not mean Bookwyrm is bad, just personal preference.

George Monbiot rips apart the agitators opposing any cuts to consumption or production of or other products. Those agitators put their personal & industry interests above the interests of current & future generations as well as the animals who are brutalised & killed. A pity that George still uses the & word “” though :“Call me all the names you want – I won’t stop telling the truth about livestock farming” https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/dec/14/livestock-farming-soy-soyboy

@leafn4give I've been doing the almost plant based thing (still can't get off Lurpak because the plant based alternatives I can get are horrid and all contain palm oil which ruins everything its put in) and I have to say just that experience has absolutely destroyed every myth about plant based diets for me. Depending how Christmas dinner goes, chances are high that I won't ever go back, plus Lurpak have a plant based varient coming in 2024 so who knows on that front

Why do we get more mad at distributors of content when said content is pulled from services due to licensing issues than we do at those who own the licensing rights? Or those who drafted the licensing laws that are being abused in this way for that matter?

Another actually good mobile game: Dream Team

Side note: is a criminally underrated service. If you've ever wanted to dip your toes into mobile gaming but don't like the microtransactions, ads etc Apple Arcade is great for that. Lots of fun little casual games but no predatory nonsense because does not allow micro transactions or ads on games in Apple Arcade.

So wants on and ? The only way I see that happening is a watered down version that only included first party titles because I don’t see either company wanting to lose revenue from the sale of third party .

I must say though, as long as it was proper native ports of the games, I’d be all for it.

PS should also be included

alternatives that don't excessively restrict free users

is great for those in the Apple ecosystem who take notes between phone, laptop and tablet a lot. It's pretty full featured for a built in app too.

is a fantastic open source note taking app that supports markdown for those who inexplicably like that

is a zettelkasten based note taking app for those looking to get nerdy and turn their notes into a full on knowledgebase. It also just sits on top of regular old md files so has the advantage of not locking you into the app

is basically open source Obsidian

Nothing to see here, just more scummy behaviour from who are trying to influence people who dared leave a negative review on . Imagine if this were not happening on user reviews but critic reviews read by millions, there would rightly be outrage.
