39 looks awesome. Same with Ubuntu 23.10.

Tough problem to have, but GNOME's ever-increasing polish and refinement makes Firefox's GTK3 presentation look increasingly out of place.

It'd be great to have this core app updated to the standards set by the rest of the Linux desktop.

Looks like I'm not the only one with this observation: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/a-gtk4-firefox-with-libwaita-is-the-next-step-into-the-right/idi-p/12396

To whom should we donate to fund work on a GTK4 port?

tl;dr: ATSC 3.0 is a DRM-encumbered anti-consumer hot mess and ATSC 1.0 will be broadcast for at least 10 more years.

The one question I have regarding the changes to RHEL source code accessibility: What happens to Oracle Linux? Oracle Linux's position doesn't seem any different than RockyLinux or Alama Linux. Oracle offers their own kernel, but other than that, isn't Oracle Linux a RHEL clone like Alama and Rocky?

"In the immediate term, our plan is to pull from CentOS Stream updates and Oracle Linux updates to ensure security patches continue to be released."

Looking forward to incrementally improved font presentation in on . I have a personal guideline against buying a laptop or desktop monitor that requires fractional scaling to look correct. Fonts on GNOME already look good with integer scaling, in my experience.

And of course, this quote is worth repeating: "Text rendering differences are always subtle and, to some degree, a matter a taste and preference"

@passthejoe The latest long term support kernel (6.6 as of this writing) is also available for EL 9 distros, if one so desires.

@passthejoe I agree completely. Although I don't use it much for desktop work, I have a low-end NUC that runs AlmaLinux very well in desktop mode. Wayland support out of the box and Flatpak there to provide the latest apps.

If one has bleeding edge homelab hardware, the latest mainline kernel from ELRepo runs great on Alma. Last I heard, kernel 6.9 (due out in May) will contain a complete rework of the CPU topology logic for heterogeneous CPUs (Intel 12th-gen and newer)

Even has a ratio of complexity vs. benefits that fits well with my work (and play) flow.

, and all hide enough of the nitty gritty behind the scenes — updates happen without me needing to know it.

And traditional is so familiar and reliable, it's hard not to tap it for just about any use case.

@passthejoe I’m also intrigued by NisOS. But the barrier to entry is too high for me. I’m already overcommitted.

AlmaLinux just works for me. And it keeps my RHEL familiarity level up for my day job.

Still on my todo list: migrate my home NAS/Plex server from Ubuntu 22.04 to FreeBSD.
