Microsoft shutting down a few studios today should be an eye opener for the people that are rooting for MS. It's a good reminder that it's NEVER a good thing when a massive company buys a smaller company.

Either that smaller company will slowly get worse or dissolve completely. There was a trend of people saying they should buy companies to save them and let them do their own thing, but thankfully I expect to see less of that now...

While we're on the topic I also want to remind people that this is why you shouldn't support Xbox Game Pass. The plan has always been to get as much people onboard as possible, then a long-term goal of getting people comfortable with not owning games (we're getting there with Games-as-a-service anyways), then the inevitable rug-pull where they raise prices and sabotage the service for profits.

Coming in the next CleanDoom update: Theme support! All it takes is changing a few colors and the theme editor swaps out all the colors automatically.

I did this in the stupidest way possible: making all my panels white and just changing self_modulate on runtime. It beats fighting with the theme editor IMO.

New update for CleanDoom (my Doom mod loader) is out! Now it warns you if any mods couldn't be found, along with many bug fixes and general polish.

✨CleanDoom is out! It's a modern mod launcher for classic Doom (specifically GZDoom) that has a super simple interface and great QoL features. I made this in about a week out of frustration at current launchers. If you're a Doom fan, please give it a try.

Tons of progress on my mod launcher today. Profile selection, support for custom commands, properly anchoring everything for window resizing and more!

It's already very usable, now I just need to implement adding/removing profiles and start working on general polish.

I'm making a new mod launcher for called CleanDoom! The goal is to have a simple, intuitive interface that doesn't get in your way and has numerous desperately needed quality of life features, such as automatically locating the flatpak version of GZDoom for Linux users and the ability to enable/disable mods without having to remove them.

This is two days of work, UI and theming are definitely NOT final... But here's a sneak peek anyways!

Just kidding. I was trying to see how destructive this can be. It keeps spamming new windows that are always on top until your computer freezes, and it overrides any quit signal like ALT+F4 so you can't get rid of it. Neat, huh?

A program that instantly spawns thousands of smiley faces covering the screen saying "You are an idiot!"

I released my first game on Steam and got rid of impostor syndrome!

My first game Mushy Score is out on Steam! I have been creating games since I was a child but never felt like a real game dev. Now I finally have a game that I can show to other people.

Mushy Score is a 2D Roguelike where you fight against endless waves of enemies. Collect points and try to get a high score! I am super exited for the release !

please only vote if you have strong positive views regarding copyleft licenses for software and cultural works

Can you name several video games you've played and enjoyed that match this criteria:

  1. The game was first published in 2023 or 2024.

  2. The entire game (all source code, art, music, etc) is freely available under appropriate open source licenses (permissive or copyleft)

If the answer is "yes", I'd love to hear about them.

@aeva Honestly it's not like people don't care about FOSS games, but there aren't that many notable ones coming out each year. There are some great ones like Mindustry and Veloren but there was never a huge movement of open source games. Most of them are recreations of old games (Unciv, OpenTTD) or honestly games that aren't very good compared to what's in the market. I say this as someone who loves these.

It's a funding issue for sure, but there aren't many that would fund something for free.
