The most useful invention I've ever run across... Corsi-Rosenthal box.

I have used this so far for:

  1. Wildfire smoke
  2. COVID-19
  3. Bacon smoke (on Saturdays, LOL)
  4. General improvement of AQI
  5. Pet related allergies (hay and dander)
  6. Ragweed/pollen heavy days
  7. Dust from Santa Ana winds
  8. Dust from construction/remodeling
  9. Paint fumes (only partially useful, doesn't absorb gases, but helps somewhat) -- plus it sucks all the dust from the air, so it doesn't stick to your paint

(probably other uses, too...)

If you see a lost F-35 wandering around (on autopilot), please call its owners.

"A spokesperson for Joint Base Charleston confirms the aircraft was placed in autopilot before the pilot ejected.

Anyone with information on the F-35's whereabouts is asked to contact the Base Defense Operations Center at 843-963-3600."

Guess what? Any plastic marked with this symbol (for "recyclable") is not, in fact, recyclable. & stands for "OTHER" aka "everything else", and despite having a "recyclable" symbol in it, is not actually recyclable.

Hmm, new data point. My son, the paramedic, says he's seeing a TON of new cases (hasn't been seeing any for months). Told me to wear a mask if I go out to the store tonight.

TIL Buggy computer software in the UK resulted in 230 post office workers being imprisoned for fraud between 1999 and 2015. Details are just coming to light.

"Faulty computer software resulted in some 230 post office workers being imprisoned on false charges of theft and fraud. Thousands of others were accused of similar misdeeds."

Interesting note for Fediverse/Mastodon users: you do not get a "view" count here, which makes some new folks (ie journalists/others) feel like they aren't being seen, even though their message is being read by lots of people. They only see the boosts and stars... So hit the "star" button often, especially on new people finally migrating here!

"What about my vacation?!" is not a very enlightened way to start an article about a town which already has multiple deaths via wildfire, imho.

Washington Post: Using AI to spot edible mushrooms could kill you

"Now, a new assortment of AI-powered mushroom identifiers are popping up in the Apple, Google and OpenAI app stores. These tools use artificial intelligence to analyze photos or descriptions of mushrooms and compare them to known varieties....With its high stakes and frequent mess-ups, mushroom identification is a bad candidate for automation, but companies are doing it anyway..."

Yes, yes, that's a GREAT idea, let's arm robot dogs with flame throwers! Great idea! (they are pitching this for prescribed fire burning for wildfire prevention and "snow and ice removal from driveways"... at least until they find a military buyer, I am sure). https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/company-unveil-robot-dog-companion-with-flamethrower-attached/vi-AA1nvoEb
