Looks like vegans are the next target of Conservatives in their ridiculous culture war. Honestly I'm glad you can't tell someone's dietary preferences by looking at them. #vegan#plantBased#conservatives#cdnpoli#CultureWars
@enobacon@cdnveggie Do you mean do bugs eat meat? They are not vegan in that sense. Or do you mean is it vegan to eat bugs? Apparently, we eat bugs as part of our diet even if we only eat veggies.
@tmstreet@cdnveggie I wash my veggies, but the question is why are they accusing liberals of trying to trick people into eating bugs? The weird ice cream store in Portland has featured grasshoppers, among other bug flavor options, but they're not sneaky about it.

#Disney secured enough shareholder votes to defeat a challenge against its board mounted by #NelsonPeltz's hedge fund #Trian Fund Mgmt.
Enough votes were cast as of Tues night to put Disney's board of dirs safely ahead of Trian's 2 challengers, that included #Peltz & fmr Disney CFO Jay Rasulo, per sources.
#NelsonPeltz is the billionaire & #GOP#megadonor who on the day the #Jan6#insurrection, disavowed #Trump, calling it a “disgrace” & apologized for voting for Trump.
But earlier this month, #Peltz had breakfast w/Trump & other billionaires — including hotelier #SteveWynn, #ElonMusk, & fmr Marvel chair #IsaacPerlmutter — at Peltz’s “luxurious oceanfront mansion” in #Florida. Peltz then told the FT that he would “probably” vote for Trump in 2024.
The NHS is on its knees, there's shit in our water, children are dying of mould inhalation in damp homes their parents can't afford to heat, and we're told that what we should be outraged at is checks notes the #nationaltrust's scone recipe.
There's a lot of justified anger in this country right now, and it benefits the shower in government if it's misdirected at bullshit like this. Don't fall for it.
And no longer being able to buy a National trust scone with butter in can be made to feel like more of people forcing you to live a certain way, although I'd be willing to bet no one actually gave a shit of their own accord about that one until the Daily Mail story was published
Here's the ever readable @kenanmalik on the problem of outsiders taking on the role of community representation & being recognised as such by hose seeking the 'leaders' of communities to defuse problems (themselves stoked but the outsiders' in their guise as community representatives).... using the example of a teacher in hiding Malik sets out the problem of culture warriors for hire.
“I don’t represent Hamas, I don’t talk for Hamas. I represent British Muslims in a British organisation,” she says. “In our faith, the killing of any innocent civilians, we condemn. And that’s it. Why would my position be any different from that?”

"Reading his remarks, I was upset but not surprised. This is partly because I am hardened to racist abuse. I receive hundreds of abusive emails, phone calls and letters monthly, and the numbers shoot up whenever I am in the media"
Diane Abbott writes in the Guardian about Frank Hester, racism, extremism, the Forde Report and her treatment by Labour.
@junesim63 active labour members have been openly racist towards her, she has evidence & the labour government has not taken action, this is the first I am hearing about this, I am surprised that it hasn't been in the news, especially as the right wing press would almost certainly use something like that to both sides this thing. I am a little bit flabbergasted that I am unaware of this...😯
@Vonskinnback That’s because the media wanted Corbyn and his allies like Abbott demonised. Anything that diverted attention from that narrative was suppressed.
I suggest you read the Forde Report.
The fear-mongering GOP is hating on books, flags, migrants, rainbows, birth control, scary clown drag queens; electing zealots and bigots; drawing pants on goblins' butts and turning teachers who support trans kids into sex offenders.
Oh dear, another bit of the Tories culture wars (this time the accusation that Low-Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) were being imposed on normal folk by car hating extremists) has failed to survive contact with reality...
Apart for a majority in LTNs supporting them, my favourite statistic is over half the people living in LTNs don't even realise they are.... yet another political 'crisis' inflamed by the commentariat.
@ChrisMayLA6 Interest declared: I live on one where prior to the LTN it was almost impossible to get out of my home because it was a cut through avoiding a couple of sets of traffic lights.
But in Oxford some have managed to whip up such a stink about them, getting national figures involved in fighting the "globalist 15 minute cities" it's laughable.
I did a map once of the city showing the areas subject to LTNs and it works out at about 10% of the city's residential areas. Because all of the rest of the city are areas where there is no through route - they are one side or another of a main arterial route and all traffic comes in or out via that arterial route
So really what they should be saying is that they succeed insofar as they do for people living in those areas by preventing others driving through streets they wouldn't dream of doing where they live! (Blue are areas affected by LTNs - pink are areas I would call "natural LTNs" where there really isn't any route through that non-residents might want to use)
