Day zero of #movement festival pre-parties complete. A great experience, but now onto the actual festival. Hate that feeling when you’re going home and the birds are waking up, but that’ll be my life for a few days.
Ferry to Surry - we were crossing a river and when the ferry took off, hundreds of birds followed the boat with us. I caught this one over the side of the deck. I love the face and the motion.
Excluded from the demonstration was any reference to the essential issues in the development of a #movement against the #genocide. Nothing was said of the history of Israel and Zionism or its role as a bulwark for imperialism in the Middle East. No one referred to the interests motivating imperialist support for the genocide, the three decades of unending war, the preparations for war against Iran, the relationship of this to the ongoing US-NATO war against Russia or the developing conflict with China. There was no reference to the working class or the growth of the class struggle throughout the world.
The organizers wanted no references to any of this because it would cut across their orientation to the Democratic Party. "Being compelled to contribute dues in the past was a false form of #solidarity; a perverse proxy for the hard work of building a #union. Let’s acknowledge that the more important resource is the people themselves. If the #labor#movement can win over #workers directly, then unions will still have the economic resources they need to fight the bosses, and have a more activated & rebellious membership that is ready for that fight, too."
