I was trying to list out the core constituencies of each party, and aside from the influence peddlers in each party, a big constituency of the Democrats is the civil rights coalition -- those people who feel threatened by the political/economic establishment. A core of the Republicans is the anti-civil rights movement. If "woke" is simply acknowledging that there is good reason for some people to feel threatened, then stepping away from it for some centrist/establishment narrative would be abandoning a chunk of the party.
Meanwhile, the Republicans cant even bring themselves to step away from the war/coup faction of their party.
