I was set up to deploy my blog simultaneously to web and Safe Network using but sadly that is no longer maintained (but still works).

So I'm working on one using my favourite . Also trying , a WYSIWYG site editor which looks interesting. Not the best UX but could help a lot of folks get online, on web and the .

I’m probably the last person to hear about it but I just stumbled on #Funkwhale in my search for a #Spotify alternative.

It’s #foss, #decentralised, and #federated! You can share #music by joinings pods or starting your own. Now I’ve only just discovered it but this feels like a much more #community driven listening experience than what we’re use to these days. Kind of like sharing your walkman earphones at recess with friends.

I love the #Fediverse.

The session at was a missed opportunity. This was a chance to discuss why decentralised socmed is essential going forward - digital sovereignty alone would seem to demand that. Unhooking govt, educational, major industry etc from platform monopolies is a no brainer, single users will follow. Getting wrapped up in who will pay for coders is tbh a small problem, solve the big problem of deplatforming and youll solve other issues.

Safe Network Update 02 November, 2023 (safenetforum.org)

Well, it was bound to happen some time. After a run of successes, the RoyaltiesPaymentNet was cursed by high memory usage which killed off many nodes before they could even start, and left the rest pretty much zombified. The spooky thing is it all worked fine on our internal testnets (albeit with some slightly raised memory...

In those early web days, I was generally laughed at to try to do such a thing (then again, people still laugh at me, but that's another matter). Later on, I ran a full e-commerce downloads site at a slightly larger scale but still very much . I've been gradually working towards doing it all again recently, bearing in mind the lessons I've learned.

4/4 It's a huge conversation, and I probably should have written this in a longer form essay - it's hard not to make sweeping statements that are open to misinterpretation in small posts. Still, I'd like to make it clear that I fully support any project that's responding to the situation. A healthy ecosystem is one that is composed of a large variety of smaller cultures - not ruled by a single monoculture. Vive la différence!

It’s a rich text editor (WYSIWYG) written in Rust with bindings for Swift, Kotlin and JavaScript.

I’ve personally improved WebAssembly support and Markdown support, https://github.com/matrix-org/matrix-rich-text-editor/pulls?q=is%3Apr+author%3AHywan+is%3Aclosed. Things are happening in decentralised internet land.

Anyone can run multiple nodes on a single device as part of an autonomous network, which means no gatekeepers, surveillance or censorship.

With a simple client app you can:

  • store and retrieve files
  • send and receive offline payments using Digital Bearer Certificates which can be validated by the network.

That's digital cash without a blockchain, which means very fast & energy efficient.

I love how I can scroll through Mastodon without seeing any ads or promoted posts. It's so refreshing to be able to see what my friends and followers are up to without being interrupted by all the marketing crap.

I know some people think that ads are a necessary evil, but I don't. I think we should be able to use social media platforms without being constantly bombarded by ads.

So thanks, Mastodon, for being a place to connect with my peeps without having to worry about ads. I appreciate it.

Hear hear. I think 'evil' is perhaps a step on the road to hyperbole, but if we might stick to the (OK, only marginally more objective) of , the users externalise their costs, unless they're making it worth the provider's expense. (Thanks @ColinTheMathmo !)

I'd love to know if it was possible to throw context dependent up alongside a instance to fund its operation, as I don't think most users are ready to pay for social media, but I wouldn't wish to fund it by mining their data and selling it.
