News coming out of Iceland has to be positive because the government owns part of the tourism industry.
I have these old "postcards" that artists used to hand out where people bought newspapers. The artists would draw political cartoons to get the point across, without naming names.

No-one will be surprised that the UK public have little faith in #political parties, but given the current travails & criminal activity in the #police, its notable how that doesn't seem to have dented whether people trust them as much as one might have expected (although this is last year's data); but I'd be interested to see that data broken down by #gender & by #ethnicity.

The #economic news in 2023 was almost miraculously good. Not only did #America’s #economy defy widespread predictions of #recession, it also defied claims that only a significant rise in unemployment could bring #inflation under control. Instead, we got a combination of strong #growth, #unemployment near a 50-yr low & plunging #inflation.
But last wk, the Bureau of #Labor Stats reported that both the #ConsumerPriceIndex & the #ProducerPriceIndex rose 0.3%in Jan, more than most analysts expected. & the usual suspects— #inflation perma-bears, #political enemies of the #Biden admin & economists who wrongly predicted that #disinflation would require mass #unemployment —jumped on the data as if it were a fumbled football.
So, are the good times over?
No. Everything we know suggests that those disappointing numbers were mostly a blip…
