I want to be more active about encouraging #Threads users to federate.
To that end, I asked @nationalkidneyfoundation to federate this morning and bring their good work around kidney disease and transplant to the #fediverse.
The vibes on Threads have been shifted. The For you feed brings up negative and controversial posts. Unsurpisingly no such negativity exists on my chronological feeds on Mastodon.
A lot more happening #Eurovision-wise on #Bluesky than here, upon a quick look. And I can't really gather the activity at #Threads since there's NO way I can display most recent activity, even if not sorted by time 🤦♂️ so idk where to keep posting on Saturday 😕
A little bird told me that when #Threads will be totally into #ActivityPub then #Mastodon will mysteriously lose the ability to block entire domains/servers... 🐦
No shocker - I hate the way it incorporates with the #fediverse as a whole and, at least currently, feels like it's working in (ish) bad faith.. that may change, but for now they are simply using us as potential eyeballs to boost their engagement numbers (esp for their "big accounts")
BUT...
From my experience, it beats the absolute pants off of #BlueSky in terms of actual "topic" interaction
Is anyone aware of a bot that counting the number of federated #Threads accounts? Just curious about the #Fediverse uptake by Threads users. Out of their puported hundred million users, I would anectdotally guess about 1000 users have voluntarily federated, but maybe you know better than me?
Question for the people! -- What platforms on the Fediverse offer the best content discovery capabilities? Services like Flipboard and Threads are integrated into the Fediverse now, we should be getting a lot of contents, but when I search for specific topics, the results are still really sparse. #fediverse#lemmy#mastodon#threads#flipboard
I believe Flipboard will prove to be a counterweight to Threads and a prime location for news & pundits (as #Meta does not really desire the latter two on their platforms).
"Quote and reply controls appear to be bundled together in a single dropdown menu, where users can open the conversation to “Anyone,” or limit it to “Profiles you follow” or “Mentioned only.”"
A lot of people have insisted #Meta isn't getting involved with the #Fediverse to embrace, extend and extinguish it...
... but even before fully implementing Fediverse interoperability in #Threads they're already talking openly about changing its protocols to add features like monetization. 🤔
Text in a screenshot reads as follows: McCue riffed on the idea that fediverse users could become creators where some of their content became available to subscribers only, similar to how Patreon works. For instance, fediverse advocate and co-editor of ActivityPub Evan Prodromou created a paid Mastodon account (@evanplus) that users could subscribe to for $5 per month to gain access. If he’s on board with paid content, surely others would follow. Cottle agreed that the model could work with the fediverse, too. He additionally suggested there are ways the fediverse could monetize beyond donations, which is what often powers various efforts today, like Mastodon. Cottle said someone might even make a fediverse experience that consumers would pay for, the way some fediverse client apps are paid today.
😂 That was odd! When I mentioned @darnell on my #WordPress blog, it pinged my #Flipboard account on my iPhone even though #ActivityPub is not yet activated (I received a push notification, which later revealed nothing 😆).
#threads is now properly working with #convocasa - I did not do anything so must have been something in their side. Thanks @paul for debugging back then though.
