Yes, it looks cool, but more and more woodworkers (hobbyist and professional) are dying or being maimed for life because of one instant of inattention or bad luck.
There is a reason most woodworking organizations have banned any mention of the practice!
I had an epiphany today: Mastodon is my makerspace. I haven't been able to find a makerspace in this area since we moved here in '22, and that's been bugging me. But I scroll through Mastodon and see people's printing, woodworking, electronics, and welding projects, and I admire them, and sometimes I ask questions and learn new techniques. And when I post my own, people do the same.

My employer, Kendall County Illinois, has begun construction on a new building.
A number of massive hardwoods (white oak, black walnut) were "in the way". While it's too late to save the trees themselves, the logs are just stacked next to the dumpster awaiting an unknown fate.

Did y'all know that you get a mitered corner on a dovetail joint?? I just love the clean lines of a mitered corner but dovetails are so much stronger. Sure, there's a secret/hidden dovetail joint but this one is the best of both worlds.
This is my first try and it's pretty rough but it was super fun to see it actually come together!

Lors du dernier #MastApéroStrasbourg s'est encore posé la question, pour les personnes qui venaient pour la première fois, de savoir comment nous reconnaître. Par chance, @mag avait ramené un arrosoir !
Mais d'autres groupes auront peut être la même idée à l'avenir, et j'avais une idée en tête pour nous rendre uniques et repérables.
Mais d'abord, rappelons que le framadate pour le prochain #MastApéro est en ligne, et sera clôturé dans quelques jours.
Un peu d'huile de lin pour faire ressortir les tanins, et on a un petit panneau pour rendre unique notre table lors du prochain #MastApéroStrasbourg !
Accessoirement, maintenant que le plan est rôdé, et comme j'ai du rab, si d'autres adeptes du #MastApéro en France (ou ailleurs) aimeraient avoir un signe de ralliement identique, faites moi signe en privé, ça peut s'envisager.
En attendant, j'espère que celui là fera la fierté de la table Strasbourgeoise !
