Smelting Without Fossil Fuels: Power Shatters the 1,000°C Barrier for Industrial Heating

"Swiss researchers have developed a solar energy method using synthetic quartz to achieve temperatures above 1,000°C for industrial processes, potentially replacing fossil fuels in the production of materials like steel and cement."

https://scitechdaily.com/smelting-steel-without-fossil-fuels-solar-power-shatters-the-1000c-barrier-for-industrial-heating/

Caveat: this is a lab result, albeit a promising one.

This would be amazing and save TONS of co2 from being emitted.

The only hurdle now is to block oil & gas investors from stopping to use this method.

BREAKING: ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan announces he is seeking arrest warrants for Hamas leadership Yahya Sinwar, Mohammed Deif, & Ismail Haniyeh, and Israeli leadership PM Benjamin Netanyahu & Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Both parties are charged with multiple specific war crimes. Both parties must stand trial. No one is above the law as this is how we protect international rules based order. Posting a detailed analysis soon.

stupidjim,
@stupidjim@mastodon.social avatar

@QasimRashid

Yes but has anybody ever sought arrest warrants for the US?

It's always other people, just never the US and the evidences are flowing over the bucket by now.

If nobody is above the law then it would be great to actually see the system work properly, unless it's 'nobody is above US law', which would be a thick scam.

Was bleibt noch als Alternative, wenn man aus Google raus will?

There's a lot of gas on palestine territory (just like in the Ukrain) and they'll do everything to justify a war, to get those juicy minerals through Israel/Ukrainian domination.

Surreal moment: there was a dude shooting a rap video in Kensington Market, but what this looked like was him standing on a street corner holding a big microphone and rapping into it in complete silence. Just really going ham, big gestures and facial expressions but making no noise whatsoever. His cameraman was way on the other side of the intersection and I didn't see him at first so for a moment it just appeared this man was trapped in a pocket dimension in which a rap video was occuring

stupidjim,

@mcc Was it an older brown guy with a red fishing-ish hat? Cause I had one standing next to me a while ago on an crowded street, doing exactly that. (without microphone though)

If you are into languages, you are probably familiar with those conversations with your multilingual friends: you take arbitrary elements from the languages you both speak, and randomly squeeze them together into sentences.

That is any regular Monday for the Swiss. Schwyzdüütsch, a.k.a. German is a colorful amalgamation of German, French and Italian.

While living in germany not for long I once had a german friend telling me she build her own closet, so me in reply said 'wow, du bist schlimm!' (when 'slim' in dutch means 'smart')

Her face skewed and she threw a rant but after some explanation we had a good laugh, but yeah, languages can be funny sometimes mixing them up!

Knowing corporations a bit, I wouldn't be surprised if soon windows 10 'surprisingly' would get some serious bugs/hacks etc.

See it as the Apple trick, trashing older phones to push people to get the newer one. (because god forbid people would be smart enough to get a fair product from another company.........)

"The First Slam Dunk" von Takehiko Inoue - Heilige Scheiße, was für ein Müll.

    Mastodon now supports automatic switching between the light and dark theme, depending on your system setting.

    It will be available in the upcoming 4.3 version, or is already there if your instance runs the nightly code.

    You can switch to this new automatic theme in your Appearance preferences. Instance admins can also set it as the default theme (I just did it on mastodon.social and mastodon.online).

    This has been done in https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/29748, thanks a lot to @nshki for the initial PR!

    Imagine really caring what gender someone is. The only reason you would really care is if you intend to treat one gender in a different way than the other.

    I'm fine with all of them but are getting a little bit confused about what the heck they want: equal or not?

    Something I've noticed a lot lately, is that especially Boomer women, but honestly, women in general, don't seem to ask for what they want or need in a direct way. I notice this a lot with my Mom and her friends. Instead of just asking for what they need directly they tell a story, to ask in a roundabout way. For instance, my Mom needed help this morning, and Instead of just saying, "Hey, I dropped my remote, can you pick it up for me?" She tells a one minute story about what happened, no ask, and eventually I get the point, and then suggest that I come pick it up. Or if one of her friends wants to do something like have a birthday party for a friend, they don't say "We should have a party!" They say, It's Sarah's Birthday coming up, you know she likes surprises, what does everyone think we should do?"

    I often wonder if this is why older people think younger women are rude and demanding, because younger people often just ask for what they want and need in a more direct way. But also it's probably just straight up sexism, because men are supposed to make decisions, and women are supposed to make suggestions.

    What do you all think? Is this just me? Have you experienced something similar?

    stupidjim,
    @stupidjim@mastodon.social avatar

    @RickiTarr This is where it shows that newer generations are learnign from older ones and start to break free.

    Older generations aren't 'bad', they just got tought that way, like newer generations are now in a new way.
