Pinneaple is really good on thick crust deep dish pizzas, where the creamyness of the cheese needs some balance. And raw Pinneaple (some people put syruped ones!) does a good job balancing that with it's mild acidic flavor. Onion does it too.
Don't put it on thin crust or use syruped pineapple because then it will overpower the pizza and I think that's what ruined many people's experience with this 😋

You know what I need tho? More fig! I had that a few times from a pizza place that went out of business quickly, and have to find a replacement. It was so goddamn good!

@cliffwade The seafood supreme from a place called PJ’s Pizza and More in Mt Colah, NSW, Australia (many, many years ago) was the greatest pizza ever made IMO. Everything you could imagine on a regular supreme, like ten ingredients or more, as WELL as mussels, clams and grilled whole baby octopus. And anchovies if requested. It was piled at least an inch high. Honestly now that I think about it I don’t recall that it had pineapple, maybe because it would clash with the preponderance of savoury toppings, but I’d have eaten it regardless. 👌🏻
@cliffwade This was around the same time that Pizza Hut introduced their AYCE deal in Aust, around 1990. We were in pizza heaven in those days. The first AYCE we went to, we sat down and the waitresses walked around asking if anyone would like a slice of x or y. Like a Brazilian churrascarria 😄 I brought a duffel bag with a big Tupperware container and added excess slices sneakily to it during the evening. The next day the pizza slices in that container had all congealed into a big cheesy pizza “brick” like a loaf of bread. 🍕🍞
@cliffwade Something else to put on your food bucket list, that I’ve been wanting to try for a long time now. Google “Irish spice box” or spice bag. I’d Cookie Monster the absolute hell out of one of those.
@cliffwade On a pizza designed to include pineapple (like a Hawaiian), yes. As a random topping building your own, not really. Meats, cheeses, peppers, herbs, and tomatoes can basically be chucked on a pizza in any configuration and I’ll enjoy it.
@cliffwade Pineapple on Pizza is EVIL!! It should not be allowed anywhere near ANY cooked food! Nobody puts sliced banana on a burger, do they? (well, maybe some pregnant women).
@cliffwade pineapple doesn’t go with pizza sauce. Pizza sauce should not be sweet, despite all the recipes calling for sugar to cut the tartness. Pineapple ought to be sweet, or you’ve got a bad pineapple. Therefore, pineapple doesn’t go on pizza.

Depends entirely on the other toppings. My usual go to is; replace the marinara with BBQ sauce, pineapples, chicken, crispy bacon, mascarpone, and mozzarella. Maybe toss on some courgette and peppers.
If we are talking just a casual pepperoni and cheese... pineapple really doesn't add much in the way of personality. It needs friends to make it work.
