Here’s my next #linocut for the #PrinterSolstice prompt complementary! Orange and blue. An ornamental white and orange carp or koi fish. The edition of prints are made on Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper, 8” by 10” (20.3 cm by 25.4 cm).
They are supposed to be lucky. First print of 2024!
Finishing up my next #linocut print for #PrinterSolstice prompt complementary. I realize I actually use complementary colour schemes quite often. Blue and orange is one of my favourites to work with. Thinking of the natural world I knew I could choose say an orange bird in a blue sky or an orange fish in blue water and thus the choice of koi seemed clear.
Anyone know of a good way to rehome #koi#carp ? Dad has 30-50 in his pond and all the cleaning of filters etc is getting too much for him. Boosts welcome.
For #ArtAdventCalendar Day 8, one of a series, each unique, of my hand made cyanotypes on watercolour paper (14” x 11”) with an image of a cloud-filled sky overprinted with my linocut print of several kites, and wind-socks each collaged with beautiful Japanese washi papers.
The carp-shaped Koinobori wind socks (also known as satsuki-nobori) are flown in Japan to celebrate Tango no sekku, or Children’s Day each May 5.

Pucker up, buttercup. Ever been kissed by a carp? This colorful koi was actually looking to see if we had some Koi treats. Taken at a local botanical and garden park and always fun to photograph.
I made a second cyanotype of a cloudy sky printed with my Lino block with several different kites and wind socks. Then I printed my block on various beautiful patterned and coloured Japanese washi papers, and collaged them on my image. I did a little embellishment with Posca pen.
The koï-shaped wind socks are traditionally flown in Japan on Children’s Day, May 5.
I felt my cyanotype of a cloudy sky needed more, so I carved a Lino block with several different kites and wind socks and printed it in hill ink over the cyanotype. Then I printed my block on various beautiful patterned and coloured Japanese washi papers, and collaged them on my image. I did a little embellishment with Posca pen. I’m planning a series of these prints.
