I very rarely pay w/plastic (#warOnCash), but made some exceptions & noticed that “Zettle by Paypal” was printed on the receipt. I got burnt in the sense that I #boycottPaypal in part b/c they are reckless w/data (they share data w/over 600+ corps). If I knew in advance that #Paypal was in the loop, I would not have paid w/plastic. #Zettle.com is tor-hostile as well.
Anybody familiar with #GoogleAnalytics et similia, what happens if you post links to website with UTM parameters that are not actually part of a campaign defined by the target site? Would it be possible to “hack” this to make the Fediverse appear in more analytics console?
Are you a developer? Do you want to help one of the most flexible, long-established and interesting Fediverse projects?
Friendica (https://friendi.ca) needs developers to help on the frontend, between the server-side PHP modules and views and the client-side HTML/CSS/Javascript aspect.
(It would also be nice if they ran their own Friendica node to help with testing.)

I'd like to work on a few small plywood projects for organization: things like stands and shelf-inserts. Basic cubes and boxes.
I don't have a lot of space to work in, so I'm not going to get a table saw yet.
I'm not sure how to proceed: are there recommended hand tools for working with plywood, or are the layers of perpendicular grain too tough? Should I get a track saw or circular saw and cut on the ground with foam insulation? Advice welcome!
What's the #fediquette (#fediverse#netiquette) concerning boosting your own toots CROSS-SERVER? Say I have a backup account on server X but normally use server Y for posting. Is it acceptable to regularly boost the content from Y using the server X account, or is it frowned upon?
Hey there internet users, does anyone know of a browser extension which replaces text or images, and let's you only give permissions for certain urls or domains?
I've found several chrome and Firefox options, but none which give the permissions control that would allow it to be trustworthy (if it reads the page it can read your inputs/data too).
Weird #question: is there a way to use #passwords without knowing them?
For example: in an API to API communication I (hopefullu) need a password or token. Is there a way to let my application retrieve and use it, without be being able to know such password?
Or: I have a shared resource (e.g.: intranet page) that, for whatever reason, I cannot put under SSO. Can I let people access such resource with a password, without sharing it or even without letting them know it? #askFedi#FediHelp
So I'm thinking of taking a subset of #OpenRailwayMap and coloring/modifying width of the lines I'm interested in depending on the number of trains per day (i.e. the more trains the thicker the line + a label showing the number). Could anyone suggest a tool that I could use to do something like that easily?
Worst case, I'll just make a #graph in GraphViz without a real #map ;-).
I'd like to run n > 2 database servers
and n > 4 containers
I'm OK with moving a project if it gets to be popular; it would be nice to not have to run DNS.
I'm familiar with DO & AWS and would like to be able to use Boto/Ansible/$SANE_API to manage things.
But I need the ability to put a ceiling on my budget.
Could someone create a bot that shows what percentage of Mastodon and the Fediverse (in total users and MAU) are on mastodon.social? And show these percentages on a graph as well?
This could be a good tool in keeping an eye on how centralised this place is becoming, and get across to others what the danger is.
(At the moment m.s seems to be about 14%. Who knows where it will go now that the official app is just telling people to sign up on mastodon.social.)
today is the 50th birthday of my best friend, (we met in kindergarten some time ago) and I don't know if I will call her...
She told me a few years ago she was dreading this milestone.
And she has not answered any of my emails or letters for more than a year (we live 2000km apart)...
I miss her...
What would you do? #AskFedi
Has anyone ever experienced a really strong feeling of nausea and then you sneeze and it goes away? 😅 I've been experiencing this for the last 6 months and my GP is clueless. I've read its something to do with stimulation of the vagus nerve but I'd love a smarter person than me to explain it? For context, its coincided with increased stomach problems. Nausea every morning, swollen stomach when I eat certain things etc. I've gone gluten-free and vegan to try to ease it but its still happening 🤔
#AskFedi can someone explain why I received two followers request even if I have an open profile and usually people don’t have to ask me?
#mastoAiuto oggi mi sono arrivate due richieste per essere seguita che ho dovuto confermare, ma io ho il profilo aperto e di solito mi seguono in automatico, qualcuno sa spiegarmi sta cosa?
Sooo … I’m recording #CCTV#video of my home. I’d like to stream it to an offsite location, so that I can e.g. find out what caused a fire after my house burned down, or who broke in (at least until they destroy the cameras & storage). Of course, I don’t trust the remote server, it should not be able to look at the footage. So, #encryption. But it can’t lose any data when the connection gets interrupted. Ideas? #ffmpeg compatibility preferred. Some more thoughts in the second toot … 👇
Is there a simple way (like an environment variable) to tell #unix/#linux/#bsd commandline applications that I'm running in light mode, so PLEASE do not give me yellow on white text?
Or do I just need to modify my terminal colors to be darker? (doesn't help with programs that pick specific colors)
