NL's plan: spend millions of dollars/several years on hopefully developing tech that doesn't exist yet, to store "up to" 1GT of carbon emissions (4% of global annual) from #oil & #gas.
This stuff is a waste of time. Any "solution" that encourages the burning of #fossilFuels, is contributing to our demise.
#Lee is expanding in size, with TS force winds out nearly 250 miles now. This means possibly significant tidal & coastal impacts when Lee comes northward. Folks from Nantucket & Cape Cod through Maine and Atlantic Canada should be preparing.
Hurricane #Lee is expected to brush #Bermuda with impacts this week, then take aim toward #NewEngland or #atlanticcanada with the potential for significant impacts this weekend. We explain what we know in this morning's post.
“the #HeatDome was a foreshock of the world to come, with impacts both immediate and long-lasting. Yet it occurred in a world that has only warmed, on average, about 1.2 degrees since 1850. We’re now racing to 1.5 degrees and are likely to cross that threshold by the mid-2030s.” #ClimateCrisishttps://mastodon.social/@ryanschultz/110906759659640682
“It doesn’t take a lot of auditing to see how the bill will get so steep, so fast. The total cost of the 2016 #FortMcMurray fire: $9 billion. The all-in price tag of B.C.’s 2021 #HeatDome, #wildfires, #floods and #landslide, all linked to warming: up to $17 billion. Cleanup and repair after #HurricaneFiona, which bulldozed #AtlanticCanada last year: $3 billion.”
"To Serve and Protect" Who exactly? 'A May 2018 federal briefing where the Mounties outlined concerns about "resource protests" from the previous 25 years, along with the evolution of tactics, was included. Most of the incidents listed had an Indigenous rights element which the RCMP omitted to mention' This "temporary" RCMP Team has now cost $50 million to #criminalize#protest#landback#AtlanticCanada#indigenous#fossilfuels

In the rest of Canada, Peggy's Cove is probably best known for its lighthouse sitting at the edge of the world, paced on a bed of bare and weathered granite. For locals, though, it's known for tourists getting swept to sea and bashed onto the rocky shore as sudden large waves crash upon those who stand on the slippery darkened stone.
Sea Weathered Fishing Sheds - Middle Point Cove, Nova Scotia
The North Atlantic is a pretty grey place at times, with the ocean, fog, and rocky coast all doing their parts to make things look and feel severe. Fishers paint their boats bright colours, so that they can be seen easily against the sea and sky, and traditionally that same paint is used on their homes and supply sheds.
Nova Scotia's coastline is dotted with fishing villages and equipment sheds. This one, located just outside Peggy's Cove, sits at the mouth of St. Margaret's Bay, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
