It took the catholic church over 200 years to admit Galileo Galilei was right, and another almost 150 years to apologise and lift the edict of the Inquisition. (in 1992)

You know, about saying the earth rotates around the sun instead of the other way around being formally heretical.

I am not usually one for those stories over multiple posts.

But I have a story to tell that feels important at this time with what is going on in the world. (1/?)

After Trump was found guilty yesterday on charges of sexual abuse and defamation, Diana Butler Bass asks why on earth the Catholic college of St. Anselm is hosting the townhall meeting on CNN that will feature this convicted criminal addressing the world as a presideential candidate.

Especially given the Catholic church's less than stellar record on sexual abuse.

So I am a week into my studies, through Zizek's lens. All good. I think Zizek's of looking at Hegel through the Lacanian lens is seductive. That said, where I find the lens of Zizek lacking, and I now wish he'd not talk about these 2(3) things any more are:

  1. (https://thephilosophicalsalon.com/why-lacan-is-not-a-buddhist-a-belated-reply-to-my-critics/)
-the boy criticizes Buddhism like people criticize . All or nothing, for the most part.

My atheism has never felt the same as or , whom we adore, and Zizek sneers. Slipping through the profound safety net religion and a transcendent, all powerful, personal god into the of nothing was terrifying, it was my first experience of the "." This is it. This is all there is. The problem is it appears Zizek commits the of (if we understand it correctly). Clearly he knows it is , even if profound from a Hegelian , we get it we really do, but it is not real. The is real, and the fiction caused the event, but the fiction is still fiction. There is no God, IOP, that became an atheist. The Zizek emphasizes is powerful, the changing of the cosmos when on the cross questions Gods love. Good story and that is all. SarahOestreich,

@Holberg I mean If we’re going all out for the , the theme of “Heavenly Bodies: and the Imagination” (yes I looked up the actual theme title) served. Just a few here and I had a lot to choose from. My mother went to the Met’s exhibit and said it was great - in the Medieval section with organ music throughout

Zendaya in a Versace silver chain mail gown
Rihanna in Margiela, essentially as a white silver and black sexy pope, headdress and all
Blake Lively in a Versace crimson gown with a gold embroidered bodice, bejeweled straps, and a train

SarahOestreich,

@amaditalks @Holberg babe, I got you. A -themed where Lynda Carter wore a tiara that said “Never Forget” in Hebrew, plus a star in her hair. Icon.
