Dungeons and Dragons folk: The Beyond Printing extension for Chromium based browsers seems to do a pretty solid job backing up your content if you're worried about / shenanigans.

I've not reviewed the code, but so far so good.

Though I've been drifting away from for a while now, it's still feels really weird to be completely uninterested in the latest releases. I mean, not even a twinge of FOMO.

Everyone playing d&d ought to watch this brief dive into good D&D play.

Ginny made a great concise talking video that is fun, silly, and remarkably good advice for all games.

I got my Kickstarter PDF copies of Tales of the Valiant from @KoboldPress. I am hoping this will replace for me. I cannot wait to ready the final version.

maybe this is a hot take, but i think having broad weapon proficiency makes sense for fighters and maybe monks.

pretty much every one else that gets weapon proficiencies should be choosing one or two weapons that they've trained with, and they should need to re-train over a week or more before being proficient with something else.

The two things that I personally feel have always been terrible about the design of are the class-based character development system and the Vancian magic system.

These systems irrationally limit the choices players can make in designing and developing their PCs, and TSR/WotC/Hasbro has missed so many opportunities to do away with these systems over the past 50 years.

But, they can be fixed, within the existing framework of . (more)

The Helm of Positivity came into play during tonight's game, in which the paladin Valinor summoned a wall of radiance.

And damn, is that thing bright or what?

The shadows I'd planned to ambush the party with were forced to retreat from the brilliant light, which also revealed their original corpses in the nearby lake.

Those corpses - nicely pickled - led the group to suspect there is a black dragon lair nearby.

shadow dragons are sad and depressing, and not in a cool, goth-like way like Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice.

Unlike , there's no shadow blend (total concealment in shadows), its breath weapon doesn't drain levels, and it can't summon shadows 3x per day.

And it doesn't have the spell-like abilities of the of mirror image, dimension door, non-detection, and shadow walk.

@pteryx Agreed. My favorite monsters tend not to come from Wizards' books. My go-to books are Kobold Press' Tome of Beasts (volumes 1-3) and the Creature Codex.

Not pictured: Marguerite then throwing a rotten turnip at said Mind Flayer, momentarily getting psychically dominated by it before managing to break free, hoisting two different party members over each shoulder and running the hell away while also doing a Kool-Aid Man on a door for the second time in about an hour in-universe, and managing to escape from goddamn Xanathar by the skin of our teeth.

Since the fiasco, I honestly considered quitting my Properties & Provinces project. In fact, I stopped developing it for about 6 months.

Now that the dust is settled, emotions are processed, and drive is somewhat restored, I've been working on it again and I'm currently developing my upcoming mass combat playtest.

Except, now it's evolved into a rules expansion compatible with 2024, , and . And reconciling all 3 rules variants is... Surprisingly nuanced. 👀

Putting in another plot hint in the next issue of the in-universe newspaper and I couldn't resist a blatant Edgar Allen Poe reference.

Madame Talisveri is actually all of her "family members" using various disguises. She was turned invisible by a curse and uses elaborate stage craft to pretend to be different people.

The fact that I mentioned Talisveri first is supposed to be a huge clue that it's all bullshit.
