A pretty pink sunset sky photographed along the Florida west coast Intracoastal Waterway. As often happens, the reflections from the sky create a totally pink atmosphere. I enhanced this colorful evening sunset with an impressionistic treatment for an artistic presentation.
Even though they’re the most common falcon in North America, I’ve only seen this small bird a handful of times in the many years I’ve been photographing so I was very happy to catch this one perched on a lichen covered branch. These little fellas can reach speeds of up to 40mph flying flat or 50mph when diving.
Awhile back, I photographed a number of plumeria blossoms and created a Collection of these beautiful flowers with a metallic finish. This is an example in gold.
The Magnolia Grandiflora is a southern beauty and probably one of my most favorite flowers. This one is in the process of unfolding and teases us with the exquisite elegance that is yet to come. They do have the most heavenly fragrance too.
A close-up photo of three Angel Trumpet blossoms. Although quite poisonous to humans, they sure are pretty to look at. Just wear gloves if working with these botanicals.
Photographed this lone lady standing on a Florida beach and looking out at the vast expanse of the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. She seemed mesmerized as we watched the sun go down on this cool spring evening.
Got a question recently, “If #Threads hops onto the #Fediverse bandwagon, why wouldn’t everyone already on the Fediverse just move over to Threads?” Quite interesting, huh?
To shed some light on this, let me share my personal Fediverse journey.
See, Threads isn’t too keen on letting me revise my posts. As of now, I can tweak my posts anytime and this is pretty awesome. Because, let’s be honest, despite being super careful with spelling and grammar, we all trip up now and then. The freedom to make changes after a post has hit the feed is a real stress buster!
Also, Threads caps posts at 500 characters. My current space, atomicpoet.org, is way more generous, giving me a whopping 5,000 characters. And guess what, if I ever feel stifled, I can always lift that. Imagine the joy of unfiltered expression in a single post?
Formatting my posts in Threads? Nada. Meanwhile, my present space lets me jazz up posts using Markdown, HTML, or BBcode. How amazing is it to have the ability to use bold, italics, and links at will!
Emoji reactions in Threads? Not quite. Currently, I can spice up any post with more than just a “like.” I’ve got a whole emoji world to explore - from a thumb’s down to fire, to hearty laughter. Isn’t it neat to have a variety of ways to respond to posts?
Direct messaging in Threads? Nope. But hey, I can shoot a (non-encrypted) message to anyone via ActivityPub right now, or even chat with anyone who hops onto my server. Imagine the privacy and freedom of chatting without the entire Fediverse peeking in!
I could go on about why Threads isn’t quite my cup of tea. No groups or photo galleries or cloud drive. Music sharing isn’t an option. No document sharing. No tree-like comment view. No video or blog-focused UI. No link aggregator-focused UI. It’s primarily a basic Twitter-style UI - which isn’t a bad thing, just not as versatile.
Sure, #Meta could build a one-size-fits-all platform. But, they’d likely end up with a Facebook lookalike, which still couldn’t hold a candle to the rich functionality of the broader Fediverse. Meta’s goal isn’t a federated Facebook doppelgänger; they’re aiming for a federated Twitter clone.
So, my love for the variety and versatility of the wider Fediverse remains strong and uncompromised by the limitations of Threads. Just another reason why I’m sticking with the broader Fediverse.
No to odnośniki do profili i tagów chciałem w komentarzu.
#FediFriday
Why are we, the users, not advertising Fediverse more? Seriously, who else is going to do it?
Most people on here can agree that a few billionaires owning most of human communications is great for the billionaires, & really not great for the humans (or other species).
If you post something to advertise the Fediverse outside the #fediverse, post on birdsite for example, then chuck a link below & at least I'll retweet it & follow you.
