Dang, almost a 14h day at work!

I'm not complaining though, love my webdev job. Always learning and growing 🌱

So many exciting things on the horizon for @pixelfed, PubKit, @loops, @supapp and other projects.

I can't wait to get back to fedi dev later today and go hard all weekend (after watching RuPaul's Drag Race ofc)

Hi there fellow mastoadmins
What do you do about media getting out of hand? I have ~1TB of media now, because I disabled the auto removal of it. I noticed that the automatic refetch of media was not working.
Is it working on your instance? Do you have the automatic removal on?

(By auto removal I mean this command tootctl media remove)

these setups are not final yet. mind that the linkwarden browserplugin does not support sso yet (and there was a problem with the non-sso signup form).

no promise for commitment yet but, if they stay, i likely won't reset them. i wonder if the official ntfy.sh instance would also block that server once some people use it with mastodon (i expect so).

I just saw, that fedidb now has data for the biggest fediverse accounts, so I did a little plotting with it.
Here is a graphic of the scattering of the 100 biggest accounts by the instance they are on.

@Gargron Why is mastodon not federating favourites (or likes in AP terms)? Lemmy and mbin/kbin do and it works fine. I know it would be more work for the servers, but at least the option should exist for admins to turn it on, shouldn't it?

In case you missed it, you can make your entire posts searchable without using hashtags if you opt into the new full text search system. Here's how to do that:

However, it's still worth using hashtags too because:

-Many people follow hashtags, using relevant tags in a post reaches them

-Many people aren't opting into full text search, so you can still find their posts with hashtag searches

-Hashtags are useful for indicating the topics you actively want to discuss

This has mostly been reported as "trans women banned from women's chess" but it's much more sinister. (as if it weren't already.)

ALL trans people are targeted by this ruling. Trans men will be stripped of all chess titles won, which can only be returned to them by “changing the gender back to a woman” (from the ICF’s ruling). ALL transgender chess players will be marked as trans in their files.

If you play or know anyone who does take a stand on this. It's ugly.

@darktable Is there a way to migrate a database from Windows to Linux? I disabled the sidecar files (because I didn't want to clutter my folder and nextcloud), so I cannot rely on that...
I have the same files on the same hard drive, but that is obviously not on the same path as before...

I do understand the reasoning behind it, and I'm not sure there is a good alternative. But it sure feels a bit like a deja vu from the self hosted email days ...
