admin, to tech

Hi there! :ablobcatwave:

Right on time with the rebranding of Calckey to Firefish, firefish.tech is opening its doors too! :firefish:

As you might have already guessed, the instance is focusing on tech topics, but everyone else is welcome too. We try to create a diverse community where all voices are heard.

Come swim with us and let's make waves together!

my posts were aimed at the direction the calckey project is taking

and now, there you go

I should add for completeness that the existing registrations do not exactly match the provision of social networking software and services and some relevant activities in classes 38 and 45 are not registered at all, but the existing protection is broad (in particular for class 9, but this may be more a risk for the project itself, not the individual server) and close enough to consider the legal risk - a specialist lawyer will be able to do so.

We're big fans of the decentralised fediverse so we were delighted to be asked to help rebrand one of the biggest open source community platforms. Read about how we gave https://joinfirefish.org a fresh new fish-based logo and then give us a follow https://www.blackspike.com/case-studies/firefish-social-logo/

A-ha, overnight (for me) what used to be did their major release and rebranding to . Looks very tidy, and carries a lot of features many of us have been missing.

It is, of course, a fedi server alternative to Mastodon. Unlike Mastodon, it allows importing your post history if you move from another server, as well as your followers and follows. Worth a peek, whether you're a user or a would-be admin.

calckey rebranding has never been a top priority of the calckey community > there has never been any poll on that matter, much less so regarding the project's new name firefish

calckey dev team is not so much about building a community, but it increasingly resembles a sect or a cult

    RE: https://mk.slipfox.xyz/notes/9he61elwqjc1qoq6

    testing,

the cult is cutting off its very own roots instead of being proud of what has been achieved while sailing under the old moniker calckey - they have even deleted the project name calckey from the intro blog post on calckey.org which dates back to 26/03/2023, when calckey.org was launched

I'm wondering if some users are currently using it on / instances, since they have MastoAPI compatibility. 🙂

If you do, what is your experience so far?

Does drive on / apply for everything a user uploads including posts, or is this limited to images and video. Is it like something like Google Drive storage but for the instance?

@FinchHaven at the very least, they'll get tired of people repeating the line " Foundation acquires Fediverse Project , promptly renames it "

I don't mind as the new name for - but I have to say that when I first read it I thought of - as many in this Lemmy thread have - and seeing the new logo & colour I can't help but wonder if Mozilla will push back as part of their active protection of their trademark, a point @leigh makes. https://beehaw.org/post/6709040

Pro Tip, if your dealing with lag on Calckey/Firefish when using a Firefox based browser go to about:config and disable backdrop-filter, speeds up websites including Firefish!

@atomicpoet is an terrific new name for and big kudos to whoever designed the logo and the team of people who guided that difficult and hopefully not too contentious decision. The logo and naming checks off all the good branding decision boxes for me.

    Well done!

I would be willing to try (formerly ) again at some point, but it was a deal breaker for me that the federation (or defederation, more like) status of servers are not publicly available.

For to be understandable and for clients to trust server admins, these types of decisions should always be made public whenever they are made -- preferably with reasoning as well. Otherwise, users are left in the dark and won't understand why they can't see a profile / post.

I'm kind of tempted to find a games related instance to join that doesn't use Mastodon & instead uses Misskey or Calckey/Firefish as some of their features appeal to me more.

I just need to dig around and see which instances might click with me, which is always the trick in this space.

    See people switching to /
and it sounds nice but I've decided I really want my next instance to be democratically governed - so I'd appreciate any tips on that!
