There are many large and #serious#problems in the world. Many people are victimized by the #system in a thousand different ways. This is not their story; it is not about their problems, but this should not be seen as minimizing them.
I'd like to talk about something a little closer to home: #employee#abuse in the #tech field. I've been in this field for <mumble> years and worked for tiny companies, medium consulting companies, large orgs, and as a one-man independent contractor.
Der Wechselwille vieler Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter ist hoch, die Bindung zum Arbeitgeber niedrig. Das sagen zwei HR-Managerinnen zu der Situation in deutschen Unternehmen.
Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe, also a talented photographer, is selling affordable prints he took of legendary Bad Brains singer, H.R., to help his friend out with medical expenses related to an ongoing condition ("SUNCT headaches, similar to cluster headaches, also known as 'suicide syndrome'). According to Blythe's IG: "To purchase a print, go HR’s IG page @therealofficialhr and click the link in the bio. That will take you to his online store." Photo of H.R. by D. #AI#GenerativeAI#Recruitment#HR: "AI is not a new tool in hiring and job-seeking. Over the past decade, it has been used primarily to make processes more efficient and cheaper for employers — from searching for key words in CVs, to filtering video interviews of candidates.
But generative AI tools are rebalancing the power dynamic towards applicants. “A lot of the recent improvements we have seen in AI are on the candidate’s side,” says Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, an organisational psychologist and expert in hiring technologies. “A few years ago, hirers were pretending to use AI to look cool even if they weren’t. Now they are pretending not to use AI.”
When Chamorro-Premuzic recently tried to hire for a role, he asked a candidate if they had experimented with generative AI. “They said, ‘If it wasn’t for ChatGPT, I wouldn’t be sat in front of you right now.’” Their CV, cover letter and application had all been written by AI." https://www.ft.com/content/98e5f47a-7d0d-4e63-9a63-ff36d62782b8
We should all be talking about #HR more. The human resources industry doesn't do anything without being pushed. It's all responsiveness to business, and legal compliance. There should be psychologists running the HR department. They should be thinking about abstract business goals, social systems (sociology), and the general well-being of prospectives. People talk about "culture fit" but I haven't seen any serious take on it except wishy-washy feels-right-or-doesn't evaluations.
“This is a guide for recruiters, managers and HR professionals who want to better understand how to interview, hire and manage Autistic individuals. A lot of Autistic needs tend to run counter to established paradigms of professionalism, and a lot of work environments can end up being hostile to Autistic sensory experiences.”

“Despite these difficulties that I have encountered as national chief, as the first woman, I've never flinched.”
Assembly of First Nations National Chief RoseAnne Archibald is once more fighting to retain her position as head the national organization.
The AFN is holding a Special Chiefs Assembly June 28 where a recommendation from the AFN executive to remove Archibald from her position will be voted on.
Next was a great talk by Heejung Chung on why flexible working leads to more work and how we can change that reality at #LSE. This is a concise review of solid evidence of why flexible working isn't necessarily a panacea for poor working conditions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V9NK9JqJN4 (7/11) #HR#management#work
#organisationsentwicklung#iopsych
Last week, I received a phishing test email that was mocked up to appear to be from HR, sharing some bullshit policy change.
I couldn’t help but to reflect that fewer employees would fall for these if they weren’t accustomed to inconvenient and rage-inducing material flowing freely from HR.
