Cloudy hiking up the trail, sunny hiking down, and lots of beautiful wildflowers in between. 🥾🌻🌾

A cluster of tall, pretty blanket flowers with their orangish-yellow petals and reddish-orange puffball centers set against a backdrop of green hills and rocky mountains. Family Beach Vacation: Lincoln City

Staying in an amazing beach rental with the family this weekend in Lincoln City, Oregon with a view of Siletz Bay. Cloudy this evening but should clear up tomorrow. This may be hard to believe with how much I hike, but we are planning our first ever family hike. Starting the kids with a 3 mile hike to beautiful Drift Creek Falls. Clam chowder and a beach candy shop are also high on the to do list.

Today I went along the 😀 I managed to go 13 miles, though it was a really hard slog at the end!
I went past Wayland's Smithy, Castle, and a LOT of hedgerows ... here's a little thread of photos I took:

Monday's expedition has been so inspirational & photographically extremely fruitful. Still selecting from hundreds, but considering to start offering prints of some of these (and others)... anyone interested?

Mountain peaks and high alpine meadows of dried autumn grass on the steep slopes are illuminated by the late evening sun during golden hour, the lower parts of the valley, semi-covered in forest are already in the shade. Dwarf mountain pines & yellowing birches in the foreground.
The unique summit(s) ridge of the Schneck (2268m) with its steep grassy slopes basking in the hazy afternoon sun. In the foreground the rocky ridge line leading to it. Serene pale blue sky.
Multiple layers of mountain silhouettes of the Allgäuer High Alps in the haze, each layer fading more and more into the distance. Some of the ridge lines are very jagged. Isolated, individual trees can be made out on the nearest ridges.

Enjoyed a fun spring hike yesterday in southern . Went up an isolated rock mountain (a “monadnock” and so-named). No ice or snow, all the way to the summit. Great views from the top! Lots of class II scrambling up steep rock slabs — impressive that this is the popular “family” trail— those 6 year old children from New Hampshire are tough! 😀

Back from an amazing hike. Did the big round across the Soierngroup mountains from Signalkopf to Soiernspitze, depending on how you count it 5 summits or so.

So much adventure! It's been hard to keep up with posting.

Yesterday we took Kio out to the Magnetic Rock, a large glacial erratic with high iron content that will deflect your compass if you get near to it.

We weren't sure if Gypsy would make the trip but she did! She fell a bit behind the youngsters, but caught up at the Rock and kept up with the pack for the trip back.

Gypsy continues to surprise us with her energy and drive once we get out in the wilderness. Back home, she seems to slow down on the easy, routine loops around the neighborhood, but the challenging terrain up here seems to loosen up her achy joints and gets her mentally engaged in exploring the world.

Having Kio along means a LOT of great photos that are hard to choose among for posting...

Spontaneous PCT yo-yo up Mt Gleason from home this weekend. Camped at Messenger flats and came down Sunday (nice to get two big days). Chatted with Ranger Todd at the North Fork station. He said he hasn’t seen anyone in two weeks. That’ll change in a month.

October 1, 1983: After crossing Pollywog Stream on a logging road bridge, the AT proceeded to Rainbow Stream, which it followed for a good distance upstream, passing a long series of cascades and small waterfalls in the boulder-strewn shallow waters.

up Table Mountain in the Columbia Gorge for the first time yesterday! On the whole, quite a nice hike despite its length, right from a fabulous sunrise, to the clouds being amazing instead of annoying. This mountain is the one that broke in half and crashed down into the Columbia River 600-ish years ago, creating the original Bridge of the Gods, which later collapsed sometime around 1690. 1/4

Tall, sharp mountain high point on the way up Table Mountain, just below a layer of fog. Everything started to get icy around here, 2000 feet elevation, forming some fancy rime frost on all the vegetation.
The rock section of Heartbreak Ridge trail, lightly frost covered, steep jumble of rocks 1 to 3 feet wide, for several feet. The trail was rerouted here several years ago to prevent hikers trampling nearby subalpine vegetation.
Some Turkey Tail mushrooms on a mossy log along the lower trail not quite up to the mountain. I think you have to eat one of these in order to hear gobbling (not recommended).

Marys Peak: Camping Day 1

I didn’t plan to hike 32 miles today, it just happened. Hiking sections of the Corvallis to Coast (C2C) trail this weekend. Made it from the edge of Corvallis to Marys Peak and back. I should have turned back sooner but I was halfway up the steep ascent to the peak so I had to commit. Haven’t seen anyone in the forest. So happy to be camping in December! So peaceful.

I had a great day in the mountains yesterday! Leaving the trailhead at dawn, I was able to spend the entire day enjoying the snowy wilderness all the way to the summit and back. Great snow/trail conditions above a certain elevation allowing between there and the summit. A clear sunny day with great views from the top. White , .

Just by revieweing this day's I realized the variety of styles that I "applied" on the photos of this day. I'm not much a fan of "Stick to one Style for recognition". Especially when I see what kind of shots I would miss.

From a distance they look soft and fuzzy but up close the spines are needle-like.

Just returned from an all-weather adventure in the White , ! Camped halfway up a mountain near a , then hiked up to the ridge the next morning, summiting three peaks before returning. , , dinner overlooking a valley at sunset, plus some heavy rain, hail, and being buried in the clouds while the ridge— this trip had it all and I had a blast!
