Here in Indianapolis, we had a totality around 3pm EST. The bird chatter was deafening all afternoon around the feeders, but once totality hit, it was dead silent (not one peep) until the sun came back. And the temperature dropped about 10 degrees. #eclipse#TotalSolarEclipse#HoosierMast
The Cooper's hawk stopped by the bird feeders at the back of the house and then flew around the house to the bird feeders at the front of the house. I didn't see it take any birds, but I saw it take off after several. #birds#birding#birdphotography#naturephotography#nature#HoosierMast

Indiana Once Again Considering Ban on Dedicated Transit Lanes
"Critics of the bill like State Senator Andrea Hunley say it is obviously part of a campaign against the IndyGo Blue Line in Indianapolis, “a project years in the making.” The 24.5-mile-long Blue Line, the third phase of IndyGo’s bus rapid transit system connecting Cumberland on the east with the Indianapolis International Airport on the west side of the city"
I went to my local park to see the spring chorus frogs in one of the many vernal pools there. Vernal pools are seasonal wetlands that appear in the winter and spring and dry out in the summer. I was shocked to find that all of the vernal pools that I checked out were bone dry. So this is a video from last year. The male chorus frogs are singing in a vernal pond. But there is no singing this year. #frogs#nofrogs#drought#sad#nature#naturephotography#HoosierMast

"Having a Klan presence even 50 years ago is more damaging to quality of life than an EPA superfund site, near-Arctic climate or bottom-tier schools."
"Whatever may have caused Hoosiers to join the Klan—hate, fear, coercion or money—the KKK has been good at one thing only. It has helped keep places poor for a century, weakening local economies, reducing population growth and diminishing prosperity."
What Indianapolis’ BRT Mess Reveals About the Troubling Power of ‘State Preemption’ in Transportation
"While Republican-led state legislatures are vying (and succeeding) at preempting transit projects across the country, “Indiana has been the most aggressive in this regard,"...Perhaps Hoosier hostility toward transit stands out because of how broadly popular the state’s transit projects are with voters"

The bluebirds continue to make up the majority of the birds at the feeder. I believe the male red bellied woodpecker has finished pecking out a nesting cavity, as I haven't seen him working at it lately. Meanwhile, the female is dining at the feeder a lot. The weather continues to oscillate between numbing cold and heat appropriate to early summer. #birds#birding#birdsofmastodon#birdphotography#nature#HoosierMast#bluebird#woodpecker
