We recently got a wifi-enabled hot tub. Some enterprising soul had already created a HA addon to work with it, so I set about implementing #observability, #automation and #alerting.
Amongst other things, it now starts heating automatically if there's plunge pricing on #octopusenergy Agile
Hey, it’s here! In print! Learning OpenTelemetry now available wherever fine books are sold. Find more information at https://learningopentelemetry.com
Y'all, my O'Reilly video course on #Observability with #OpenTelemetry is now available! This has been a YEAR IN THE MAKING! Huge thanks to the team at O'Reilly for helping make this happen. Also BIG thanks to my peer reviewers for keeping me honest:
🥳 Come and work with me 🥳 My team (Observability) at Digital Ocean is hiring engineers 🎉 #fedihire#observability It's a (big) mixed bag of "data", "distributed databases", "old bla", "operations" and a whole lot of fun with very nice colleagues. The job is strongly collaborative because we basically help everybody to.. you know.. observe things :) The job is fully remote. Msg me for details or go here: https://www.digitalocean.com/careers#anchor--current-openings ("infrastructure")
I'm doing secondary research trying to reconcile multiple #Observability & #AIOps 'research' reports, and am having trouble corroborating this number. It seems ... optimistic?
.𝐍𝐄𝐓 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝!
The upcoming .NET8 release is taking #cloudnative deployment and #observability seriously, and most notably with the new .NET Aspire stack.
On this month's live-stream I'll host @davidfowl, Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft and a prominent #dotNet figure, to hear all about it.
Join us in Berlin next month for this special meet up 😎

#DotNet#observability:
one of the hot things last month at #DotNetConf was Aspire, an opinionated stack for building resilient, observable, and configurable #cloudnative applications with .NET, which comes with built-in components, health checks, developer dashboards and more.
"We completely and utterly fucked it up by defining observability to mean “gigachad-scale JSON logs parser with a fancy search engine.” Really? Really? That’s the “we solve Real Serious Business Problems™” strategy we went with?"
The OTel End User Working Group is kicking off 2024 with this all-star panel moderated by Ana Margarita Medina, featuring @honeycombio@mipsytipsy, Equinix's @renice, and me, as we talk about where Observability is headed in 2024.
For the 2024 edition of #FOSDEM the #Monitoring and #Observability devroom received 61 submissions, a record high, and the average quality was also quite high.
Building a schedule is a luxury problem... I just sent out the first ten acceptance emails; we have two more slots and will build the schedule with actual times once the reconfirmations come in.
