but a 2 party system is locked in because of #FPTP voting. 3rd parties can never dominate: duverger's law. a 3rd party vote is self-destruction of your own interests
#usa#americans: ranked choice is slowly creeping in, mostly spearheaded by #democrats. so who are you going to #vote for if you want robust 3rd parties?
People forget that Gov Inslee appointed Hobbs to Secretary of State to get him out of the way in the #WALeg because he was such an obstructionist. Now, no surprise, he's being an obstructionist in the SoS office.
Related: Any politician or insurance salesman that says "you can pick your own insurance company" in our current system, and that's why we shouldn't have #MedicareForAll like every other civilized country, is a lying turd, a baldfaced liar, a charlatan, and a threat to America.
The US cannot claim to be a civilized country until the health insurance industry is utterly destroyed and replaced with a national system. Liars and all.
Yet another white #liberal not understanding why someone who looks like me would not be voting blue (and red because we have to say that now).
The fact that me voicing my opinion and explaining it on an account that has been verified to be authentic is equivalent to a Russian bot account is pathetic.
They'd rather dehumanize you then actually listen to reason.
BlueDot @BlueDot@majorlinux It means that for the next election and probably more, there will be #fascists on the ballot and the Democratic candidate is the only alternative to electing a #fascist. Doesn't have to be that way for long. We could make #RankedChoiceVoting a national minimum standard and get rid of first-past-the-post elections. Then your first-choice vote for a socialist third party candidate wouldn't help the Republican. That's not achievable if Republicans succeed in ending democracy. T Jan 19, 2024 at 12:46 @majorlinux@BlueDot Fascism is already hear for a lot of Americans under Imperialism fueled by the capitalist class. Democrats seek to uphold the status quo for the capitalist while further disenfranchising the working class. This will happen either way with the current two party system. We do have a choice to fight against the current imperialist, capitalist, white supremacist, fascist regime. Jan 19,2024 at 13:20 via Ivory
BlueDot @BlueDot@majorlinux The Democratic Party has sins to answer for. Lots of them. But if you think there's no important difference between Democrats and Republicans, we have no common ground. Russian trolls have been working hard to sow division among Democrats, so Trump will get reelected. I block them, and I also block everybody who sounds exactly like them. Jan 19, 2024 at 13:40
Hey Washington State residents: the "Washington VOICES Act", HB 2250, has a hearing in the legislature in less than a week! We need you to sign in "pro" in favor of this bill to show your support to the State Government Committee. Please do it before January 24! It's quick and easy:
It means that for the next election and probably more, there will be #fascists on the ballot and the Democratic candidate is the only alternative to electing a #fascist.

We need to get over the idea that voting is a way for us to express our personal ideals. Voting is one move in a chess game that never ends—one each voter plays with a hundred million other voters. You can't win on the first move, and if you're in a bad board position it may take a long time to get out of it. (Narrator voice: we're in a bad board position, in many ways.)
If you don't play, though, or don't make alliances with other players, you're likely to lose. Losing now will be very bad.
A political party, which is a private organization with no official government relationship, has the right to choose their nominee however they want.
But the general public, in general elections, should be able to rank their preferences for any number of candidates and win with a true majority. Not worry they will "throw their vote away" and lose to a horrible candidate in a plurality election.
There's a new #RankedChoiceVoting bill in the Washington State Legislature this year, this time called The Washington VOICES Act (HB 2250). Learn more about the bill on this page from FairVote Washington, and follow the links to write your state legislators and ask them to support this important reform! https://fairvotewa.org/ranked-choice-voting-legislation/
both parties usually fight it. referendums. I specifically want FFV (final five voting). party primaries get replaced with a vote for your favorite candidate, and the top few get into the #RankedChoiceVoting general election.
our primary system (combined with gerrymandering) makes our elections mostly about candidates who best serve their party's interest. people willing to compromise or care more about integrity than interest groups, get weeded out.
The “I won’t vote for the lesser of 2 evils” rubbish
“So 1 of the noms from 1 of the 2 major parties is going to win. & if you don’t vote, or you vote for 3rd party candidate, you’re inevitably hurting the candidate from 1 of major parties who’s closest to you in values — & helping the 1 farthest from you… as GOP has gone fascist, w unhinged #Trump at its head, potential consequences of your not voting or voting for a 3rd party candidate are horrific” https://open.substack.com/pub/robertreich/p/the-i-wont-vote-for-the-lesser-of?r=br61&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email
every vote is a compromise if you're not the candidate, but I've been alive 45 years and never not been told that we can't afford to vote third party this time. even with the electoral college for president in solid blue states. and I know Democrats are constantly pushing back against #RankedChoiceVoting. and where is the public option Biden promised? vote strategically but also support reform. it just gets so tiresome. https://time.com/6112318/american-democracy-final-five-voting/
There has to be a better, shorter way to say “party list proportional representation” in five syllables or less. Ideas:
ranked slate voting
instant slate voting
slate choice voting
member slate voting
Problem is that I’m trying to find a shorter term which applies strictly to legislative elections. The use of the word “slate” can apply to any office, and I need to distinguish legislative elections from others. #ProportionalRepresentation#Elections#rankedchoicevoting#PartyListPR
In Arizona, Idaho, Pennsylvania, Oregon and Nevada initiatives are afoot to institute ✅ non-partisan primary elections, some involving ranked choice voting
Whereas Ohio Republicans are seeking to ❌ close their state's primaries
