@flexghost Zealotry replaces #GOP#Thought and #reason. Extremism is being normalized by a media who sees extremism winning and wants to ensure #access to #power. We’re in deep trouble.
Reality is a bitter pill when you’ve been fed a steady diet of religious fantasy. While life always was random, I felt safer when I could explain it as “God’s will” or “Satan’s handiwork.” I felt extremely exposed & vulnerable without my Cosmic Big Brother watching over me. Step by step, I learned to own my life. Divorcing religion is painful - but it’s also liberating. I love my life ♥️ #independence#criticalthinking#identity#reality#science#equality#reason#SecularHumanism#atheist#joy
Edgar Morin about Reason / Rationality / Rationalization.
Reason: "Reason corresponds to a desire to have a coherent vision of phenomena, things and the universe. The reason has an indisputably logical aspect."
Rationality: "Rationality, in a way, never claims to exhaust the totality of the real in a logical system, but it has the will to dialogue with what resists it."
All around me, everyone is getting less and less COVID-cautious. When they see me in my two layers of masks while I’m out and about, they say, with a certain incredulous undertone, “Still wearing a mask?!”
I think most of my friends and acquaintances now believe that I am exaggerating, completely overdoing it. Very, very few still share my concerns. Hence I am glad that there remain some voices of reason. Like, for example, the brilliant writer Jessica Wildfire (@jessicawildfire) who has a Substack blog called “OK Doomer” and a Ko-fi page.
I will recommend some recent texts to read and consider.
My own nuggets from the WebAIM 10th screen reader user survey…
A reminder that non-disabled SR users are probably not the ones to dictate how disabled SR users should consume content and patterns.
For context, I do not consider myself an advanced SR user and I am alarmed how much more I know than devs & testers I encounter who cavalierly assert what is and is not good for SR users.
I didn't used to be a "militant" #FOSS user, but I've been bitten too many times by companies with #proprietarysoftware. For example, #Reason DAW, #Zbrush - both companies that decided to say fuck you to perpetual licenses. Now, I try to avoid any proprietary application. I recently went looking for a good notes app and everyone loves #Obsidian. As soon as I saw it was closed source, I noped out and settled on #Joplin. These companies will eventually fuck over customers so I won't waste my time.
It bugs me when people say “the thing is is that” (if you listen for it, you’ll start hearing it… or maybe that’s something that people only do in my area.) (“What the thing is is that…” is fine. But “the thing is is that…” bugs me.)...
"Logic" is used to carry many different, but associated, meanings. Its formal meaning usually refers to the discipline that allows us to examine an argument, and conclude that its structure is such that it can deliver a deduced and reliable conclusion when provided with sound premises.
In everyday usage, we often say "logic" when we are actually referring to Reason. I blame Mr Spock for that... 😐
Usually. But when it comes to free online content, you're often the subject or intended spreader of somebody's propaganda. Some rich asshole is willing to pay to ensure a story that serves their agenda is able to go viral, rather than good faith research/reporting that takes teams of people lots of time and work to figure out. Why doesn't #Reason magazine struggle with fundraising etc like other journalistic enterprises?
any good #DAW recs on #linux? i know #reason isn't available on linux and #flstudio is ok i guess. #lmms is cool but very limited and hard to work with. i like to click and write midi notes mostly. #musicproduction
“Do not hide behind such [altruistic] superficialities as whether you should or should not give a dime to a beggar. That is not the issue. The issue is whether you do or do not have the right to exist without giving him that dime.”

What linguistic constructions do you hate that no one else seems to mind?
