Now, I try to avoid any proprietary application. I recently went looking for a good notes app and everyone loves . As soon as I saw it was closed source, I noped out and settled on . These companies will eventually fuck over customers so I won't waste my time.

What linguistic constructions do you hate that no one else seems to mind?

It bugs me when people say “the thing is is that” (if you listen for it, you’ll start hearing it… or maybe that’s something that people only do in my area.) (“What the thing is is that…” is fine. But “the thing is is that…” bugs me.)...

"If something is free, you're the product."

Usually. But when it comes to free online content, you're often the subject or intended spreader of somebody's propaganda. Some rich asshole is willing to pay to ensure a story that serves their agenda is able to go viral, rather than good faith research/reporting that takes teams of people lots of time and work to figure out. Why doesn't magazine struggle with fundraising etc like other journalistic enterprises?

My own nuggets from the WebAIM 10th screen reader user survey…

A reminder that non-disabled SR users are probably not the ones to dictate how disabled SR users should consume content and patterns.

For context, I do not consider myself an advanced SR user and I am alarmed how much more I know than devs & testers I encounter who cavalierly assert what is and is not good for SR users.

SR users largely stick with their primary SR because they are familiar with it and its capabilities.
https://webaim.org/projects/screenreadersurvey10/#reason

It helps that SR users are also largely satisfied with their SR.
https://webaim.org/projects/screenreadersurvey10/#satisfaction

There is a lot more in there, including mobile SRs, things that trip up users and so on, but this thread is long enough. Go read it.

Respondents indicating that they are very or somewhat satisfied by their primary screen reader: NVDA 97.6%, JAWS 95.6%, VoiceOver 92.4%, Narrator - 88.9%.

Being indoctrinated throughout childhood to accept anything but reason on ‘blind faith’ is contraindicative to critical thinking later in life.

Unlike any deity, this can be proven.

Reality is a bitter pill when you’ve been fed a steady diet of religious fantasy. While life always was random, I felt safer when I could explain it as “God’s will” or “Satan’s handiwork.” I felt extremely exposed & vulnerable without my Cosmic Big Brother watching over me. Step by step, I learned to own my life. Divorcing religion is painful - but it’s also liberating. I love my life ♥️

More than argument, logic is the very structure of reality

The patterns of reality

Some have thought that logic will one day be completed and all its problems solved. Now we know it is an endless task

"Logic" is used to carry many different, but associated, meanings. Its formal meaning usually refers to the discipline that allows us to examine an argument, and conclude that its structure is such that it can deliver a deduced and reliable conclusion when provided with sound premises.

In everyday usage, we often say "logic" when we are actually referring to Reason. I blame Mr Spock for that... 😐

Why?

He said Christians are “in danger by the loss of our religion”
