There's 24 people injured on a flight from Sydney to Auckland.
And what stands out for me is the frankly sociopathic statement from the airline:
"LATAM regrets the inconvenience and injury this situation may have caused its passengers, and reiterates its commitment to safety as a priority within the framework of its operational standards."
First, how did we ever get to the point where this kind of, frankly, bullshit public relations response from companies is acceptable?
Who actually thinks this response to a crisis is remotely acceptable?
If 24 people are injured on a flight, clearly that airline's "framework of its operational standards" isn't working.
Frankly, after an incident, those operational standards probably need reviewing.
And just look at the passive voice in that first sentence. "This situation may have caused"? "Regret" rather than "sorry"? Passengers being rushed to hospital is an "inconvenience"?!
If this statement genuinely reflects this company's attitude towards safety, then frankly it should never fly again.
The rule is one of the most highly anticipated in the #SEC’s history, generating some 24k comments from #business, #trade grps, investors & #climate#activists.
“This is going to impact a lot of different companies. People will be able to track them based on what they are required to report, not just the co’s own #spin on data. You will …be able to see which companies are doing a better job at dealing w/ #ClimateChange,” said Doug Chia, Rutgers Ctr for #Corporate#Law & #Governance fellow.

#Spin#TrapErNietIn 😀
The nearby #radiogalaxy#M87, located 55 million light-years from the Earth and harboring a black hole 6.5 billion times more massive than the sun, exhibits an #oscillatingjet that swings up and down with an amplitude of about 10 degrees, confirming the #blackhole's #spin. The results are published in #Nature.
For those who missed it, Paul Fenwick @pjf has solved the "USB paradox", where you have to try to insert a USB-A plug three times, flipping it over twice, before you succeed in inserting it into the port.
His genius, and obviously correct, explanation is that USB-A plugs have spin 1/2. Consult your local particle physicist for details if interested.
My favorite quantum physics explanations was from someone who responded to the question "what is electron spin" with "Imagine a ball and it's spinning, except its not a ball and its not spinning". It seems like a shitpost, but pretty much sums up all of quantum physics philosophy.
Dunno how accurate, but was told the spin of a particle represents its degree of #symmetry - basically as you rotate it, how many angles will there be where it looks the same?
Spin 1? You have to completely rotate it, doesn't look the same from any other angle.
Spin 2? Half a turn will do it.
Spin 1/2? If you turn it around once, it doesn't look the same. You have to turn it around two full turns...
Angular momentum is a measure of an object’s rotation around a point (#spin) 🌪️.
Centripetal force is the force that keeps an object moving in a circular path, always pointing towards the center (#holdingtight) 🎯.
One is about spinning momentum, the other about the force directing that spin.
In this example:
As you shoot the water jet at the skateboard wheel, you are continuously adding angular momentum to the wheel. This increases the wheel’s rotational speed.
As the wheel spins faster and faster, the individual particles in the wheel experience a greater centripetal force, pulling them towards the center of the wheel’s rotation. However, at the same time, due to the increased rotational speed, the particles also experience a greater centrifugal force (which is not a real force but an apparent force observed in a rotating reference frame), pushing them outwards.
At a certain point, this outward “force” (centrifugal effect) becomes too great for the material of the wheel to withstand, overcoming the cohesive forces holding the wheel together, and it starts to expand and eventually breaks.
This being said, I’m not sure if that’s actually correct what I just wrote, so take it all with a grain of salt (as one should do anyway when reading something online…)
"We observe that oxygen #dynamics in #chiral environments (in particular its transport) depend on nuclear #spin, suggesting future applications for controlled #isotope separation to be used, for instance, in #NMR. To demonstrate the mechanism behind our findings, we formulate theoretical models based on a #nuclear-spin-enhanced switch between #electronic spin states."
The #BBC has apologised to the batrachian #Farage, but the sum total of it is: "We reported you lost your #Coutts account because you don't have the money. This was not entirely accurate. You also lost your account because you're a bigoted shit."
Farage and his fanbois are gloating. But he's still gunning after someone senior in the bank, because it was never about money or 'spree feach'. This is about revenge and intimidation, and always has been.
This #DailyMail headline, meanwhile, is impressive mental gymnastics and gaslighting even by Farageian simp standards.
Less 'Hurrah For The Blackshirts!' and more #Postmodern psychosis for low level sociopaths.
What's dangerous about #Farage is what's dangerous about #Trump. They attract people who are willing to embrace utter absurdity and madness, just so they never have to admit they're wrong, or ever have to properly grow up.
Next #vinyl#spin is Tim Kasher's (from #Cursive band) side project, #TheGoodLife. Can't believe #BlackOut came out 21 years ago, the year I graduated high school! Aaahhhh!
