Next read for fiction:
Great tales of detection has 19 short stories selected and introduced by Dorothy L. Sayers. This collection was originally published in 1936, but it's still easy to find this more "recent" edition from Everyman.
Sayers edited several short stories collections and besides the interesting stories, she also wrote insightful introductions about the history and development of the genre.
I'll be using an Oxford related bookmark.
Next read for non-fiction:
Howdunit is a collection of essays about the genre and the work of detective, crime, thrillers authors. The articles are all from the past and present members of The Detection Club, organised and edited by Martin Edwards.
Bookmark from the Portuguese edition of The Floating Admiral, also a The Detection Club work.

The REAL problem with long lists and shelves is that it’s hard to sneak in re-reads of old favorites.

Oh, and for those of us who are aging, the dawning realization that we won’t ever read all the things we want to.

This is a short video highlighting 6 books we recently received here at Hutchins Library that I am considering for my TBR (to be read) list.

I've been dipping in and out of "Poirot, The Greatest Detective in the World" by Mark Aldridge since it came out, but I wanted to read it "properly" :-)
I started it yesterday's night thinking I would read just a little bit, but I'm must confess this is one most difficult to put it down 😍
Husband and I took Suchet DVDs out and are watching them in order, I'm also re-reading some of the books because of that, so the time for "Poirot" couldn't be better.
Can I just add how beautiful I think this cover is?

Of possible interest. Personally, I'd consider the Maddow book, in part due to the topic, and in part because I've read other books by her, which I have liked.

@bookstodon Please recommend a good basic privacy-respecting non-social reading list tracker for iOS/macOS. My reading list is a mix of print, audio, and library books. Once read, I like to note how well I liked it, if I didn't finish (and why), and make a few optional comments. What works for you and why? Thanks for your boosts and help!

Just for that I think I need to add it to my to read.

I have so many more unread books on our shelves than I'll ever read. Each of those books is somewhere on my TBR
list. I'm thinking that I might complement my list with a list. There are so many (and more and more)
books, and I have so little (and less and less) time in front of me when I might read them. Obviously, winnowing
the collection would help to declutter our small space, but might it also declutter my mind?

@claudiac Thanks to the smart readers on Mastodon, I have a long list BUT several are unavailable to me because they aren't yet published in North America. I am an old fashioned reader who uses paper rather than a screen, and reads rather than listens. So I am really PO'd that Hannah Kent's Devotion is not available to me in Canada nor is the Georgi Gospodinov's Time Shelter nor is Hanna Pylväine's The End of Drum Time. You'd think that book publishers could , right, @bookstodon ?

Which book has been on your TBR pile the longest? For me it’s Ancient Evenings by Norman Mailer. I got it back in 1992 and never got around to reading it. I still have it somewhere.

sfwrtr,
@sfwrtr@eldritch.cafe avatar

@Shanmonster Sadly, I've not read a book by any of my favorite authors in over 5 years. Their new novels are definitely on my TBR list. Since I've begun writing again, between that and the day job, I've not had the time I was willing to commit. Retirement will remove so many barriers. I expect I won't be bored.
