Today at @longreads, we're highlighting a new reading list from Kanya Kanchana for those who love to make lists.

"To love a list is to partake in letter and word, form and change. To make lists is to join a long line of list makers, to indulge in a timeless art, to break down the artificial wall that separates thinking and doing, thinkers and doers."

@bookstodon Please recommend a good basic privacy-respecting non-social reading list tracker for iOS/macOS. My reading list is a mix of print, audio, and library books. Once read, I like to note how well I liked it, if I didn't finish (and why), and make a few optional comments. What works for you and why? Thanks for your boosts and help!

Neil Gaiman said “Short stories are tiny windows into other worlds and other minds and other dreams. They are journeys you can make to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner.” In our latest feature, longtime contributor Pravesh Bhardwaj has curated 10 short stories, all freely available to be read online.

Reading Diary: 2024 🧵

  1. Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, Satoshi Yagisawa (2009, trans. 2023)

Poignant tale of a young woman who, through a series of mishaps, ends up working for her eccentric uncle in his secondhand book shop. Captures the spirit of very dark days that gradually turn into light, and at the heart of it all, magic that only comes from rediscovering the things you love.

4.5/5 ⭐

Feminism's Bad Objects
Special issue of South Atlantic Quarterly (2023)

I loved Weigman's piece on Rachel Doležal, and you will too.

I am excited to read Fawaz's writing about straight men doing queer feminism.

I am so curious about West's "U jeets’el le ki’ki’ kuxtal: A Hemispheric Meditation on
Abolition and Autonomy".

Taylor Swift "invites identification, but as her monocultural presence grows, this identification becomes ever more challenging, unless we project our own selves onto her. Swift’s artistic output is now entirely separable from Taylor Studies." Jill Spivey Caddell casts her gaze on the phenomenon that is Taylor Swift Studies in our latest reading list.

It's almost my birthday :blobcatcheer: and I plan to ask for another book or book series as my present :catsip: :catsip: :catsip: I just think I deserve it lol

I am not sure which book I'd ask for though. Last year (before the total collapse of it all), I asked for the Harry Potter series. I had been dying to get the physical copies of them since I became a fan back in highschool. :blobcathug: :blobcathug: :blobcathug: But since the issue with 𝘚𝘩𝘦-𝘞𝘩𝘰-𝘚𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭-𝘕𝘰𝘵-𝘉𝘦-𝘕𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘥, it became stale and I practically had the longest reading slump in my entire life so far.

I wish that whatever book or book series I pick relieves me from my slump. Then I'll finally rejoin reading spaces and (maybe) even join in ʙᴏᴏᴋᴛᴏᴅᴏɴ :blobcatcoffee: :blobcatcoffee: :blobcatcoffee:

I know people complain about @Vivaldi being not fully open and being based on , but you just can't beat when it comes to features. I read a lot on the Internet, but sometimes I just don't have the time to do it right now. Vivaldi has an integrated which I can just add my current page to with relative ease. To make it easier, I created a to add the current tab to the Reading List and then close it. I put that chain on my toolbar with a custom icon.
