Happy #ThrowBackThursday y'all! I dusted off the high school yearbook for this one. Some decent memories but as I was turning the pages looking at other photos, I was reminded of how much I hated those people. 🤣
We've come a long way... Check out this screenshot of LibreOffice 3.4 from 2011, compared with how it looks today (with the shiny NotebookBar user interface)! #ThrowbackThursday
Today I've been thinking about my late Dad. He always gave such wise advice. I always try to think about what he would say or do in many situations. Decided to share a pic for #ThrowBackThursday My Mom was gone a lot. She had a gambling addiction (Bingo--not funny, she would spend our food money). Nights were spent just me and my Dad watching TV, or listening to the stereo. He was the nurturer and cook. Mom took this photo. We were probably listening to music and rocking in his La-Z-boy.
#Dgar Now listening to:
The Butterfly Ball And The Grasshoppers Feast
~ Roger Glover and guests.
A legendary, timeless album. A concept album that tells a story from beginning to end with amazing music, fun lyrics, and incredible performers. If you haven’t heard this album through, please treat yourself!
Welcome back! This is our fourth design critique thread. Today, we're taking a #ThrowbackThursday look at iPhoto for iOS, launched in 2012. Despite its short lifespan, it delivered visual design craftsmanship in spades.
The purple Game Boy Color was my first ever game system, followed by the purple #GBA and then the blue SP. The original DMG needs some repairs and replacement parts, it was a garage sale pickup years ago.
I use the #SteamDeck a lot nowadays, but I still try to make time for the #retro#handhelds. The mini #emulation handhelds can be a nice change of pace as well! Do you still like old school handhelds? Let me know!
Here's my physical Pokémon game collection. My first was actually a Pokémon TCG cartridge, but I traded it away to a childhood friend many years ago. Among the GBC games, Silver and Crystal need new save batteries. Blue, to my shock, still holds a save.
Also pictured: my EZ Flash Omega and Acekard 2i flash carts with many Pokémon games on them. The rest of my collection is entirely digital. Do you still have your old cartridges?
I only grew a beard briefly on two occasions in the Navy.
If you grow one, you have to keep it, since your ID has to be changed.
So, on trips, we did this, but this one I was the only one I kept.. for a year
A year later, I started getting seasick and dizzy in heights. The next 16 years were hell, at sea.
My father wanted to be the next Walker Evans or Robert Frank.
My mother remembers it differently.
"Instead of paying the dentist, your father spent a lot of money on an expensive camera so he could take pictures of people without their heads or feet."

Our trip began in beautiful British Columbia and continued on with a cruise to Glacial National Park and a train trip from Denali to Anchorage Alaska. 2018 Sept
I think this is 1988, not long after I got contact lenses. Recollections are hazy but I recall this was taken somewhere near to, but not actually Birmingham, and Pop Will Eat Itself being involved. Clearly in a pub where waistcoats were essential wear! 😅 #ThrowbackThursday
An Un-Anniversary Celebration
Memories – from 2014 – a fun throwback story if you want to read on… We are in Quebec city, having a great couple of days on our way home from a bit of a tour around friends and family in Ontario and Quebec. Last night we found a little restaurant, the Café de Paris, (read the tale here... https://www.elliekennard.ca/un-anniversary-celebration/ )
Pieces that only exist once in the world.
My beloved fairy necklace with earrings went to a client in Hollywood. Paper yarn in fairy green with Japanese glass art. Elaborately handmade. For people who dare.
I still make them today in several colours, but each one is unique. Why did I never made one for me?! 🤔
Wendy Carlos won multiple Grammy awards for pioneering the use of synthesizers in her music. She composed the original soundtrack for Tron. She also happenes to be trans.
For #ThrowbackThursday, on this day in 2016 we installed a rack to hang my bicycle on the wall of our apartment.
I miss this plain old acoustic bike sometimes. It served me well through high school, college, law school, and my wanderings afterwards. It wasn't a cargo bike, but I learned to attach panniers to it and carry groceries. I awkwardly strapped a case of oranges to the rear rack a few times. A good steel bike is hard to kill.
I left it at my parents', and my dad gave it away recently.
