Steam broadly giving a green light to a practically infinite tsunami of legally dubious and generally unethical AI-generated garbage "content" is a bad omen for the future of the medium.
In the short term the store will be swamped with low effort, low quality generated asset flips. This is already happening on other stores.
But more importantly, the long term value and appreciation of real games made by actual people with human brains will undoubtedly suffer.
I'm extremely disappointed by Valve's decision to allow AI generated content on the steam store again. While I understand that it's not their job to gate keep games due to production policies, the conclusions they've come to are entirely favoring the developers using AI tools over people actually working on content or even consumers looking for honestly produced games. One look at Amazon's book situation should be enough for Valve to understand the dangers here.
#SteamDeck is the first #Valve hardware I own, second being the Steam Deck Dock. I finally know what #Apple shills feel like cos I’m now the same with Valve and I 100% want and need more hw products from them. Whatever they cook in the future, I hope it’ll include a #SteamOS laptop (they’ve included great speakers, mic, and amazing haptic/“fake” touchpads on the Steam Deck, I need em in a laptop), a SteamOS “console” box perhaps, and a #gaming controller as good as the built-in ones on the Deck. The cherry on top would be them selling these hardware at a low margin or even loss like they did with the Deck, to keep them affordable with the hopes of enticing more people into the #Steam ecosystem like they’ve successfully done with me.
tbh the more I see people having face tracking in #vrchat the more I think the deckard might lack in that area unless #valve surprises us. I mean they totally could?* but like, I havent heard a whiff of facetracking in bradleys #steamvr videos nor have heard of any patents indicating so. The quest face tracking just seems sooo nice and social vr is undeniably a massive use for these headsets :nkoThink:
25 years ago they made the game the same as we do today, without experience, without a detailed plan, everyone does what they can and how they see it in their own way... it's all so familiar and will probably never change, everyone has almost the same beginning, almost the same mistakes...
After thinking about it, if Mr. Sweeney is interested in fighting Valve's "monopoly" they should be doing everything in their power to port the #EpicGames Launcher to #Linux and getting it on the #SteamDeck . They could, single-handidly, undermine #Valve 's control of the platform and use it against them.
I don't disagree - I just say that so far I've yet to see #Steam stealing peoples' games from their accounts.
And yes, #Valve managed to get people into liking their #AlwaysOnlineDRM as a "#feature" to the point devs get harrassed for not publishing on Steam, which is more than condemnable but inexcuseable by those doing said harrassment...
