Hello #MastoAdmin, if you are a small (lets say under 100 active) instance in #Pennsylvania, #Delaware, #Maryland, #DC, or #Virginia and want to join my #relay, follow the instructions at https://relay.epistolary.org/ and link to the "local" federated feed. Right now it's open-ish, hopefully people are generally good enough that we can keep it that way. 👀
Visiting a friend he showed us Virginia's famous Skyline Drive, at one of the parking lots I noticed this lone tree.
But I guess it's easy to stand out when you're the biggest and the only one wearing colour.
Voted. Dropped off #Virginia Permanent Absentee ballot at county drop box. Easy to vote now. I get text when ballot is mailed and another, after I mail or drop off ballot, confirming receipt AND acceptance.
Laser focused on electing politicians with expertise & experience - who can win. In these dangerous times, I want team Biden, who can hit the road running. Giving today's Republicans any chance for control in 2025 would be a catastrophe for America and the world.
"Since November 2023, Democrats have held a House majority in Virginia, as well as a slim majority in the state Senate. Their stronghold was used to defeat a whopping 11 discriminatory bills that would have targeted transgender citizens – particularly minors."
A lot of these votes were 9-6, which means this could have gone much differently. The list of bills is at the link, and some were extremely bad - a "women's rights" bill that did nothing except enshrine the right to discriminate against trans women, for example. Scary stuff.
8 Feb 1693: letters patent issued by King William III and Queen Mary II #otd for the foundation of the College of William & Mary at Williamsburg #Virginia.
If you're from #Virginia near Staunton, Harrisonburg, or Charlottesville, I created a bot to combine all the feeds from some of the local news publications. More to be added in time, but check it out!

“I think that’s what it’s going to take, is people to keep interested, keep asking these questions, so that the lawmakers and people who are in that position of making decisions know that this is real, and that this is really impacting so many people"

June 25, 1983: Picking up the roadwalk under the I-81 overpass near the sprawling truck stops on US 220, I soon found myself drifting back into the #Virginia to which I had grown accustomed on this journey, following rural lanes past rolling pastures, barns, silos and a few small clusters of residences.
Fairfax County, Virginia drops some road widening projects from long-term, regional plan
And here's another one!
"transportation plan that no longer includes widenings of Route 29 in the Merrifield area, New Braddock Road...at the same time, the county added some projects, including Orange and Yellow Line Metrorail extensions and the Route 7 bus rapid transit (BRT) system, that it hopes will pave the way for a less car-centric future."
"The facility, 25 miles in the Atlantic off the #VirginiaBeach Oceanfront, will have 176 turbines capable of generating enough electricity to power up to 660,000 homes.
The more than $9 billion project is due to come on line in 2026."
The Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia is a stunning sight after a snowstorm. Unlike typical snow scenes, this image is not monochromatic. The blue sky and the blue in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance add vibrant colors to the picture.
Task Force to Consider “Restorative Justice” for Black Families Uprooted by #Virginia University’s Expansion
Spurred by our “Uprooted” series, a task force created by the city of Newport News and Christopher Newport University will reexamine decades of city and university records shedding light on a Black neighborhood’s destruction.
Let’s talk about #ants and #myrmecology today, because I am seeing these dear little Winter Ants emerging all over the place. Looks like they come out on the first warm spring day, which apparently it is here in #virginia.
I love walking in a snowy forest! The tranquility and stillness are so peaceful. A couple years ago, I explored Mill Mountain after a heavy snowfall. The trees were beautifully coated with thick layers of snow. Check out my gallery for prints and more.
We’re having a great winter here in #Maryland and it’s 22F / -6C. My type of weather, of course all the buzz today is in Baltimore. I ain’t a #Ravens fan 🐦⬛ but I still wish them luck since they represent the Old Line State. The whole state is gonna stop functioning at 4:30pm ET. 😁 .. of course I’ll be watching while being occupied.
@zebibyte@nfl It's a practically balmy 31F / -1C in #Virginia and I'm using desktops running #BOINC as supplemental heaters because they get the CPUs nice and toasty.
My #Lions don't play until tomorrow. I'm not sure what will happen to the city if they win
