I haven't touched watercolors since October - a reminder of how full and stressful a time it has been. Not that the stress got less, but trying hard to truly disconnect this week.
J’ai fait une petite aquarelle (format carte postale) à partir d’une photo prise il y a quelques jours, et cette fois, j’en suis content ☺️
Deux remarques :
je trouve que j’ai bien réussi le trou du cul du chat
par contre, en termes d’écriture, je suis à peu près au niveau “dessin par une IA” 🥲 (mais franchement, c’est dur de reproduire le logo de Coca-Cola en négatif en minuscule). #aquarelle
J'avance tranquillement sur cette aquarelle toute cosy.
Pour celle-ci, j'utilise principalement les aquarelles de La palette de la Merlette, une artisane qui propose de magnifiques couleurs contenues dans des cupules de glands. https://www.lapalettedelamerlette.com/

Mes pâtisseries sont moins appétissantes que les vraies, mais l'intention y est ❤️
(PS : la citation latine originale est "abundans cautela non nocet", excès de prudence ne nuit pas. J'ai cherché comment dire pâtisserie en latin à la place, mais si ça se trouve, c'est pas ça du tout 😅)
My third Peter Cronin watercolour demo.
I called this ‘Catalogue of Errors’ because there were so many things that weren’t as intended, although I think I’ve successfully hidden many! The result is pleasant, I think, but I may well have another go in a few weeks to see if I can improve it and avoid the errors.
In the last few days I've switched my painting style almost exclusively towards the cottagecore aesthetic, with very limited palettes of muted gouache colors. It's possible that I'm entering a new phase in my art that might last a while. While cottagecore is not a new style for me, I was switching to other themes whenever I felt like painting something different, mostly with watercolor. But having done a few paintings of that style now, it's obvious that gouache is the right medium for it. You need the layering complexity to get the best out of the style, you need the painterly feel and thickness of the paint. So far, I'm having a blast!
Tried a direct watercolor, without any preliminary drawing - which usually ensures I am confident with the composition (before I potentially destroy it with paint).
Oh man, this was hard. Grid as I go?! Compose mentally as I mix water and pigment before the first layer is all dried up?!

This summer I painted an eagle for the first time in my life - I really enjoyed playing with watercolor to create an abstracted background and body as well as a more realistic head of the bird.
La fée endormie fait partie de ma collection d’aquarelles printanières.
On plonge ensemble dans la richesse des verts profonds tirant sur le noir dans cette caverne qui sert de refuge à une fée pour s’y reposer.
Tout l’hiver, elle a dormi à l’abri dans les entrailles de la terre, bercé par le son des gouttes d’eau perlant le long des parois.
Enfin, le soleil perce à travers un puits et révèle mousses et plantes. Bientôt, la fée reviendra à la vie.
