I haven't been liking and sharing other people's photos as much of late (sorry), but I do appreciate you all. I'm not just puffin you up, either! Thanks.
Sitting in the snackbar - This beautiful Sparrowhawk was sitting in our garden at about 50cm (20 inch) from the bird feeding station as if he was in a snackbar. The feeding tray was of course totally abandoned by all the little birds
My Bald Eagle friend here has something to say to my fellow Americans: GO VOTE!
Normally I try to keep my politics content confined to my other accounts, but tomorrow (11/7) is Election Day across much of the US. While it may be considered an "off" year in many places, there are likely hugely important things on your ballot.
Here in Virginia the entire legislature is up for grabs, which will determine whether the right-wing governor gets to ban abortion, trash our educational system, and hurt trans people.
In Ohio, there's a constitutional amendment on the ballot that will protect the fundamental right to abortion.
In Pennsylvania, there's a state supreme court race which will be important for voting rights (as in: do you have any?).
In NJ, the entire legislature is also up for grabs
In many places, school boards and mayors, etc. are up for election. The school board races are a particular target of the far right at the moment, so defending them is paramount.
The red-backed shrikes are back around me! In fact, I'm involved in monitoring their numbers and I've already counted at least 4 nesting pairs nearby. (Red-backed shrike, Indre, 10/05/24)
