On a positive technical note. After enduring the horror of an HP inkjet printer, I bought a Brother color laser printer. It continues to work flawlessly with all my devices. I don't have a Brother app, they don't have any of my personal information. After a year of use I finally had to get some new toner. It was $50 for a full set with an extra black cartridge. You can get generic toner for even cheaper and it works fine because there's no DRM. Brother, I love you! #printer#brother
#TIL that installing a #Brother printer with @debian is simply a piece of cake. 🍰 I just pressed all the necessary buttons and it works out of the box. 🤯 So far, that has never ever happened before. I didn't even have to install any drivers. I'm flabbergasted! 😮
We've had a #Brother printer* for the last four years. No problems at all. Zero.
But now, the prints started coming out crumpled. Turns out there was a sheet of paper wrapped around a fuser roller, deep inside the printer.
Guided by the first 2 mins of this video, I took apart the printer, fixed and cleaned the roller, and put it back together. No tools needed, it's all just clicky plastic elements.
@ross I have a larger model with the scanner and feeder tray, DPC L2550DW, because it was the only #Brother#Printer I could find during the 'Rona times. It's a beast. There is a reason that nearly every car mechanic shop has a Brother printer still printing invoices while caked in dust, oil, grease, stacks car parts, and the occasional shop #Cat .

Grml. Meine #Hardware#Probleme reißen leider nicht ab. Nachdem mein #OKI Laserdrucker, der seit vielen Jahren einen hervorragenden Dienst geleistet hat, komplett mit Magenta eingesaut war und ich den mühsam gereinigt habe, habe ich heute eine neue Kartusche eingesetzt. Erster Ausdruck: Siehe Foto. Geöffnet: Wieder alles eingesaut. Lag wohl nicht wie gehofft an der Kartusche. Ich brauche einen neuen #Drucker. Bis dahin gilt hier das papierlose Büro.
Hat jemand unter Linux Erfahrung mit: #Epson EcoTank ET-4856 oder Eco Tank ET-2856 oder #Brother MFX-J5245DW? Für alle gibt es angeblich Linux-Treiber. Gedruckt werden hier im Jahr ca. 1000 Blatt (meist doppelseitig). Gescannt wird wenig. Bisher habe ich noch ein uraltes Epson Multifunktionsgerät, das nicht mehr druckt, als Scanner im Einsatz. Das soll im Zuge der ganzen Geschichte gleich mit weg.

Bon, sur ma #manjaro j'ai pas les droits pour scanner, il faut que je fasse un sudo, mais ça va se régler.
Sous #mageia, suffit de se servir du script bash proposer par le fabriquant et tout est OK.
Ich möchte zur #Drucker-Debatte beitragen, dass auch #Kyocera solide Laserdrucker herstellt, die Jahrzehnte halten und günstigen Austauschtoner fressen. #Printer#Brother

In Italy is almost impossibile to fine #Brother multifunction printers DCS-T* (with tanks, ecology mindset), while is way simple to find Canon #Megatank.
Do you know that #HP “Instant Ink” subscription that tries to get you to treat pages like limited cell phone minutes while locking you into their #DRM#inkjet cartridges that only work if the #printer can phone home over the Internet?
Why does every freakin printer listing have seven images including a model standing next to the printer but NONE of the back or sides showing the connectivity!!
JFC I am SO sick of opaque-operation feature-proliferation- upsell culture.
Okay so I have been using the #Brother printer / fax / scanner that literally everyone #OnHere recommended and it has been SOLID the entire time. It's not artsy, and it prints monochrome, but you know what, that works fine for work applications.
If the replacement print head doesn't work once I eventually get experiment ink for it, I may still hook up the #Epson just for the capability of scanning masses of individual sheets at one go. That's the only thing the #Brother doesn't do that I would really like.
When buying a printer it used to be important to check that it works with well with a GNU/Linux system. According to https://wiki.debian.org/SystemPrinting , printers made after 2014 mostly work without problems.
@serge I completely agree with what you say about #Brother. I've been using the same Brother Laser printer for twenty years; works well under Debian. But it would be nice to do double-sided and scanning as well. Ideally it would do colour as well, but that doubles the price...
So yeah. Just installed this #Brother whatever DCP colour laser thingy in the office and it JustWorks™️. Prints. Scans. Makes copies. All for around 350€. No driver download or whatever needed. Weird that this is exceptional and not the default experience. Thank you, Brother!
