@ross I have a larger model with the scanner and feeder tray, DPC L2550DW, because it was the only #Brother#Printer I could find during the 'Rona times. It's a beast. There is a reason that nearly every car mechanic shop has a Brother printer still printing invoices while caked in dust, oil, grease, stacks car parts, and the occasional shop #Cat .
As others have pointed out, great #Linux support! #GoTeamBrother#ThisIsTheWay#tech
I love passing by wind turbines. They are such an essential solarpunk element to me. Seeing one feels like a sign of hope: a different future is possible.
@vicgrinberg In Portugal, many times this past year, we had effectively 0€/kWh energy (free-price energy) based-off wind turbines production. We're killing it in renewables—the average % of renewables in the grid sits in the 60-80% usually if not more 90-100% at certain times. #thisistheway#endfossilfuels#EndFossilFuelsNow#fossilfools
If I copy your shit as my own, that's plagiarism and it's bad.
But when I copy everyone's shit and run it through a mystery box that rearranges it until it barely makes sense, that's futuristic technology.
And if I take your shit and sell it, that's copyright violation and it's bad.
But when I make a place for people to post their shit and I just sell access to it so the mystery box people can have it, that's a viable business model.
@fraying A young artist spends a month visiting the Louve studying the great works of the past then using what they learned creates and sells original art work. #ThisIsTheWay
Somebody programs a computer to do the same task. #Copyright infringement!!!
Pushing ecosystems to an unstable state
Reliance upon function uncertain
As mankind tempts its fate
Protected areas remain
If we are willing to pay the cost
The future is not simply pain
Do what we must
Put functional systems first
Do not give in to all or bust
A planet to be kept
Hospitable for all
Not just the most adept
Inspired by Adam Welz’s book, The End of Eden
"Human society is completely reliant on the predictable functioning of ecosystems," Adam Welz says. "We are pushing those ecosystems into unstable states, driving up uncertainty, pushing ourselves deeper and deeper into the unknown."
Today I learned that LEGO has a program where you can send them your old LEGO (bricks, pieces, mini-figs, etc). LEGO will then take them in, wash / sterilize them, and donate them to children in need!
In light of Musk completely missing the point of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I propose that we henceforth refer to him, Thiel, and all the other crass and fundamentally humorless plutocrats who insist on reading us their manifestos as what they most resemble from Adam's works:
In light of yesterday’s events which continue yet, I am reminded that antisocial behavior has not been thwarted by social media…which in some ways has supplanted many people’s need/use for actual community.
As the term “community” continues to lose its connection to one’s locality…many have chosen to become a force of one, in defense of one’s homestead/ stronghold supported by new “communities” of people they have never actually met.
Such an approach is often about protection from the very communities (where one actually lives) that were once our primary support systems.
It’s not so much that distal communities (like this one on Mastodon) are bad…it’s just that when they replace all connections to local communities, bad things can happen.
Remember your communities near and far, and what functions they serve to you and all humanity. Be the neighbor/citizen you wish to see in the world.
So now that I have pre-ordered my Natural Titanium iPhone 15 Pro Max, the next question/dilemma is whether or not I put it in a case or spot that sexy finish.
What do you all think?
