Our incompetent Home Office is in charge of this change, so it will go swimmingly of course.
I was quite taken aback to learn that #Chaosium had lost the #Elric license.
They had that for decades but evidently the BBC got the rights for a Hawkmoon adaptation (which never materialised) and so Elric! and Stormbringer slipped out of print.
I'm not a big Elric-head but I remember the sheer number of Stormbringer modules and how some of them (Sea kings of the Purple Towns) were actually good #brp#ttrpg
More adventure prep, this time for my not-quite- #unknownarmies#brp campaign DARK STAR. 1967 California, it's Twin Peaks meets 7 meets Pynchon. Crashed Aliens manipulate humans to enter the Dreaming in order to find a way home, a mad computer scientist turns murderous manipulated by his own AI which has struck a deal with the aliens, and the small town is subject to a secret governemnt drug experiment, becoming more open to the alien brain waves. Vandaag mn BRP lijst ontvangen. Het valt mee, maar een aantal keer dat de politie/marechaussee mijn gegevens opvroeg, na 2018 niet meer (of ze zijn op andere snode manieren overgestapt). Maar dus wel vreemd, meerdere keren op een dag bijv. en dan ook mijn ouders en kind nagetrokken. En op die datums heb ik helemaal geen contact met ze gehad. Best raar dus.
En verder een paar vreemde dingen: iets met WMO waar ik nooit mee te maken heb gehad, hebben ook vrij vaak gecheckt. En DUO, terwijl ik helemaal geen studie volgde, ook best vaak.
UWV spant de kroon, pagina's lange opsomming, ook vaak meerdere keren per dag, soms wel 4 of 6 keer.... wtf. Juni 2022 stopte het abrupt.
@cstross@rivetgeek Basic Role Playing - the Chaosium d100 percentile system seen in Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, Ringworld, and in an evolved form in Pendragon. It was released as a big generic #ttrpg quite some time ago and has recently been re-released. #BRP
Wouldn't it be sweet if every #TTRPG setting and character and system could be used with every setting and character and system in an enormous #RPG#multiverse?
So many systems already have multiverse settings (#GURPS, arguably #BRP, even #DnD if they still have that planar thing going on).
Groups could team up for one-offs in the shared intersection of their usual settings.
@deathanddrek@ttrpg@Chaosium Yeah! Another example is that early translation software used #Esperanto as an intermediate step between other languages. So why not game with the intermediate system instead, right?
Because it's the first "Universal Game Engine" released under the free #ORC license, the new #BasicRoleplaying is poised to become the #Linux / open source software of the #TTRPG world. You can do almost whatever you like with the text of the book, including copy it, subject to the license.
I love #GURPS too, but it's not free & open the way #BRP is - yet.
@cybergoths@ttrpg@Chaosium I repeat: #BRP is the first universal game engine to adopt the #ORC license. It's a lot older than FATE as well. But go play FATE, and peace be unto you. I've released many games under a CC license myself.
@rwhe@ttrpg My point was that there are already “open source” universal #ttrpgs out there. #BRP is not breaking any new ground by doing this except by going first with #ORC. It’s great they’re doing this, as I have many fond memories of BRP games. It’s certainly novel for @Chaosium - who’ve historically been much more protective over their products and IP - to embrace open licensing. I applaud that.
The closest I get to #BRP these days is #DeltaGreen. I keep eyeing up Pendragon again, and also #FriaLigan’s #Dragonbane which is plumbing the same roots.
