I could really do without mud season (number 4, I think) this week! We're supposed to be collecting the (foam glass product for sub-slab insulation) tomorrow but the roads are a mess. Need to do 4-5 round trips with our trailer and it's not going to be fun.

But we know that we are no longer the same, and not only know that we are no longer the same, but know in what we are no longer the same, you wiser but not sadder, and I sadder but not wiser, for wiser I could hardly become without grave personal inconvenience, whereas sorrow is a thing you can keep on adding to all your life long, is it not, like a stamp or egg collection.

The Beijing city library recently opened to the public, revealing sculpted 'hills' & 'valleys'. The glass-clad building, which serves as the world's largest climatized reading space, invites nature into the rooms & adds transparency to the enriched interior when viewed from the outside. The architecture reminds of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Old train bridges are awesome! Perfect repeated patterns and weathered texture. This century-old Black Bridge crosses high over Waterford Ponds.

A really striking building we saw today while walking through Lakeview in Chicago. I love green color! The weather was perfect. Warm with just a hint of cold in the air.

Great story about how Burkina Faso architects Diébédo Francis Kéré and Albert Faus build schools and orphanages that stay cool in 40C heat, using local materials such as laterite and drawing on traditional building techniques.

Do these floor to ceiling open panels qualify for I wonder? I will assume so. A beautiful garden to visit if you're in the Valley (though many areas are now undergoing restoration work.)

I did not sit down to write a negative review of but that is essentially what happened.

It isn't a bad game, but I wouldn't necessarily consider it a good one either. I share my initial thoughts after an evening of gameplay.

An old photo from last year. This is 300 S. Wacker Drive in the Loop. It was a pretty nondescript building up until about 2014 when they decided to put a striking mural map of the Chicago River.

I'm looking for folks who have some expertise in #construction. I'm writing a series on #building in the time of #ClimateChange and looking at ways buildings can be safer as the weather gets weirder, and products or approaches that lower the overall carbon footprint of buildings who would be interested in an interview. It would be 15-20 minutes via phone or Zoom, one day this week. Can anyone here help?

Our solar kiln build is progressing nicely. We got most of the roof (except the ridge cap) installed at the weekend, and insulation in the south wall.

Already, even on a cloudy day in February in (peaked at 24,000 lx), we still saw a temperature differential of +14°F vs outside.

Just need a sunny day to see how it’ll really perform! Hoping to get more done this weekend.

View inside the solar kiln, showing insulation in the front (south) wall and clear polycarbonate roof.
Graph showing the temperature outside (peaking at ~33°F) vs inside the solar kiln (~47°F)

Decaying building at Vákhou str.

Vardáris is one of my favourite parts of Thessaloníki. Although way past its prime, the neighborhood feels nostalgic and alive with memories of when it was lively and chaotic.

I saw this view out the window of the bus this morning so I pulled the cord and got off at the next stop to run back and take this picture of Cornell's Vet School walking back to work I realized the light was special because the building was backlit with the sun behind a small cloud
