A friend asked me earlier tonight if I had "processed" some stuff that happened to me a while back, and I jokingly told her "My philosophy on emotional processing is: I ain't got time to bleed."...
Tonight’s #watercolor of a western desert. My #anxiety is less today and doing a watercolor seemed right again. Where I live the deserts get burning hot and freezing cold (sometimes both in just 12 hours). The heat I can do without, but I love the sense of solitude. Tomorrow I’ll be spending a bit of time driving through the desert and into the mountains. I’m looking forward to seeing the wide vistas in a region I haven’t visited in a while. #bipolar#cPTSD#MastoArt
If #cPTSD, #anxiety, or #depression could be stopped simply by force of will then the strong survivors I know would be healed. This is not to minimize strength or resiliency or perseverance or persistence… It just felt very much so like receiving therapy from someone who did not have firsthand experience in what it means to live with chronic or debilitating mental illness.
@kravietz ”As people freak out about possible “nuclear disaster” that is in reality practically impossible here, they lose focus from the actual environmental disaster already caused by Russia by destruction of the Kakhovka dam...”
Oh, you underestimate my ability to freak out about a multitude of things at once and in unison. My #anxiety is always on a swivel.
@guidedbywire You will be there, somewhere. The level of trauma #CPTSD may be hard to deal with, at first, but it is something all us older autists are coming to terms with. Know that you are not alone in your suffering and your journey of self discovery. @payaldhar@jeanoappleseed@actuallyautistic :blobcathugblahaj:
I'm trying to put together a short list of the basic concepts that are essential to understanding the #ActuallyAutistic experience of life. These can be helpful for explaining things to allistics/neurotypicals, but also for seeing ourselves from our own perspective instead of how we are failed NTs. I think it's just a few (albeit big) concepts. Here's my basic list:
#AskingAutistics Do you have your own short list of concepts for understanding or explaining #autism? What are the big ideas that shape your experience of #autistic life?
We're now $355 from making rent today & avoiding trouble with the owners, can we raise this in the next 2 hours 30 minutes while our safe person is still in the office?? 🥺
If so, then I can hopefully raise enough for groceries because we're literally out of everything, and are painfully hungry...
Please boost to help these queers & kitties stay off the streets! 🙏🏻
We still have to raise $750 more to get our only bank account out of the negative and pay the inn the Minimal payment they expected on Wednesday so they don't give us another eviction notice TODAY! 😭
If 30 comrades can each donate $25, we'll reach our urgent goal!
i'd like to compile some resources on things like mental health community peer support and emotional first aid, and so i'm asking for recommendations.
we are all quite aware that healthcare in the US is a travesty, but even for people who do have access to quality therapists and the like, it just doesn't sit right with me that "maybe you should talk to a therapist about that" is so commonly the only substantial support given to others.
emotional work is still work, and disabled communities often don't have the spoons to help each other effectively... but as an autist who does much better in situations when i know what's expected or needed of me, i'm inclined to believe that it would genuinely be very healing and empowering to learn how to help each other, get our hands on more resources, and have alternative options to offer in tandem with "seek professional help."
this can absolutely include how to protect and care for oneself when a friend or loved one is in crisis, and how to set boundaries and step away from a situation when someone's in need but you just aren't able to help.
so... i'm doing research! does anyone have any articles, books, organizations, anything? this is primarily for mental health, though i believe in the same principles for physical health and also advocate for learning physical first aid as spoons and resources allow!
if there are huge glaring issues with this approach, i'm also interested in hearing why and getting resources that address those.
#NicheSupportGroup Idea: support group for people who want to get more active together but aren't Intense about it or want to run marathons and shit because our childhood traumas made us very conflict avoidant
Pondering whether it's a neurodiverse thing or long-term childhood poverty thing that finds me consistently going through all of my shoes and cleaning and polishing and repairing them each season. Either way it makes me feel calm and well taken care of. I know when I put my feet back in my boots next fall there will be new warm insoles waiting for me inside of them.
hi, i'm rune! :heart_disability: i'm nonbinary (she/her), bi/pan, polyamorous, pro-kink, and more! despite my limited spoons, i’m fascinated by most everything in the world, including...
gaming (ffxiv, minecraft…) :gaming_love:
writing (prose, poetry, roleplay…) 🖋️
reading (sff, romance…) 📚
programming & math :blobfox_computer:
music (listening, performing, & composing) 🎹
psychology & philosophy :galaxy_brain:
visual art (illustration, animation, 3D…) 🎨
the list goes on! and there are so many fascinating things in the world i haven’t even heard of yet!
i'm an ADHD autist and i love getting to know people, but still learning how to make room for myself. i also suffer from complex PTSD and other disabilities, which have resulted in my plurality. i’m happy to meet singlets and other systems alike! :plural_ampersand:
i care deeply about accessibility and disability rights, queer rights, racial equality—really the whole spectrum of human rights (intersectionality is important!) as well as animal rights and environmental issues. honestly, i just care a whole-heckin-lot! :heart_progress: :ms_globe:
unfortunately, this causes a lot of overwhelm and i’m struggling to balance effective activism with self-care. so i might not always be able to engage or research as thoroughly as i’d like. i do what i can to make informed choices and reduce harm, and i’m hoping to curate a space for myself that offers at least some relief from the dumpster fire we live in. :dumpster_fire:
there's probably still a million-billion things i'd like to add but can't remember. above all, the most important thing you need to know about me is that my favorite color is blue. :ms_heart_blue:
I work in many areas, try to be an aide to #activism for #antiFascism, as a lifetime #chronicPain sufferer I celebrate/embrace all forms of #neurodivergence, including #artists, #autistics, #cptsd, #diabled, am always available to sing ANYTHING a bass can, from busking to Gregorian chants to oratorio to opera to any and all Janis Joplin's rep(I'm her reincarnation, by the numbers) j. I am a well educated #transgender woman, a demisexual lesbian, and an eclectic #Pagan. I am loving, and giving. I am a #caretaker type, who often fails miserably at self care.
I am a widow. The day that my wife died, the doctor came to me asking for my permission to stop all life-saving measures. I said “Call it” to the doctor, thereby finalizing her death.
I am a #spoonie with diagnoses of fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, moderate cervical spine stenosis, complex PTSD, epilepsy, and stage 2 chronic kidney disease. I have at least two migraines a month on average.
