Moved to a , , or instance and missing watching ? Well do I have something for you!!

Antennas.
Antennas are effectively custom timelines. They work approximately like watching hashtags, but they can look for normal text as well. You can add as many phrases as you like and the results can be filtered with an ignore list.

You can make an antenna that just shows posts from specific users and notifies you when they post something new, you can make an antenna that collects posts containing or excluding certain key words, or you can make an antenna that collects only posts with files attached. You can even make an antenna consisting of “Posts from specific users” with “Show replies” checked.

Setting up
You can set up antenna by going to the More! section on your sidebar, and selecting Antennas. Press Add + to create your first. This is where you can also manage & edit previously created antennas.

Images:

  1. Where to find More! on the sidebar (highlighted)
  2. Where to find Antennas in the More! menu (highlighted)
  3. My antennas page showing Add + button and my previously created antennas.
4 & 5) When you click Add + you get this page to set up your antenna. I've set one up as my Calckey antenna and another to alert me when PastaThief posts. There's a lot to go through here. Expect a separate post sometime soon.
6 & 7) What those antenna feeds look like.
  4. On our progressive web app you can access your antennas by selecting the UFO in the top right corner.
  5. Clicking on the UFO button brings up all my antennas and the link to manage/edit them

I plan on writing up a fuller explanation soon, but happy in the meantime to help anyone wanting to set them up.

There's been a lot of death wishes during the past few days towards multiple people.

But here's what gets me. Out of my own pocket, I'm providing a server for people who want defederation from Meta. I already bought a domain, and am setting it all up as we speak.

Are those extremists who are uttering death wishes doing anything tangible besides wishing death upon those who disagree? Are they providing servers that are pre-emptively defederated from Meta? Are they providing any infrastructure for a Meta-free Fediverse?

Nope! Not at all! They're building nothing!

Da meine jetzige Instanz den Geist aufgegeben hat und ich auf der Suche nach einer Neuen bin, hat jemand Erfahrung mit federation.network in Sachen Moderation und geblockten Instanzen?

I can't decide if I like Calckey or Mastodon more. Mastodon has the nicer mobile app like Megalodon but Calckey has the nicer desktop interface.

Whilst I am worried they will try the old “embrace, extend, extinguish” plan, I must admit I’m quite excited for to join their apps into the .

An extra 2bn people to talk to on here! And the ones who really enjoy it will find out they can switch to or or one of the others for a similar experience but with no ads and better moderation. Nice!

What's confusing me is that when I try to login to with my Mastodon client, it redirects the browser to /oauth/token (the Mastodon auth url) but Calckey seems to redirect me to /auth/SOMETOKEN?mastodon=true I suppose this a compatibility thing.

I see that has /auth/session* endpoints but should I use those instead?

Where is the documentation for the /auth/SOMETOKEN?mastodon=true endpoint? Is it the same as /auth/session/generate?

Any good clients? Firefox seems to work fine for mobile, but I onboarded to with @Tusky and recently @apps but it seems like the CalcKey web client has more/different features. Wondering if there were recommended clients.

Thanks

Being able to export my social graph on the Fediverse from Mastodon, then import it into on an entirely different service like Calckey without having to start over has broken my brain.

There really isn't a walled garden on the Fediverse! Adding my Mastodon followers worked flawlessly. I could even import my lists! Rebuilding my content filter rules is a bit of a daunting task best left for some other time. I'm going to enjoy this for a bit.

The enhanced features of MFM posting seem very nice too. A post preview to prevent formatting mistakes? Markdown language with custom emoji? 3k character count? Reactions? All Sweet. I also appreciate being able to add hashtags in their own space without having to insert them throughout the post. It makes texts much easier to read.

First impressions of Calckey are very positive.

I am not understanding what is.

  1. It seems like it is a rewrite/alternative server to the mastodon server. Looks to be written in Rust. It is a fork of , which seems to be written in typsescript
  2. But since it uses ActvityPub, it's interoperable with Mastodon
  3. Seems like you can't migrate your Mastodon account over.

So basically an alternative microblogging interface to the fediverse with different server software.

This is getting really interesting and 🤯

As I said, this is the biggest day in https://calckey.social history.

It's perhaps the biggest day for overall.

This chart measures Fediverse requests. That spike is what's happening right now -- and the day is far from over.

We're all riding a rocket ship 🚀

Something I've not seen mentioned by @atomicpoet and others when talking about is that it supports server administrators displaying you by pushing them into your timeline.

This can apparently be turned of in user settings in CalcKey, and is documented more by the MissKey project (from which CalcKey is forked):

I believe many from who abandoned will probably embrace by (many are already using Instagram like for what it is worth).

I will try to reintroduce them to the , but this time promote & as viable options.

I believe the window of opportunity for this will be short, as I assume (I have not evidence for this, so be skeptical) Threads will launch managed hosting options within months of entering the Fediverse.

I hope we get some more mobile app interest in #calckey, like Mona, Ice Cubes, and Ivory. It’s shaping up to be a really nice platform.

My detailed trial report.

It's fine, but I don't think that I need any of the things it does that Mastodon doesn't do (although I could have done with real italics there).

I hope you enjoyed my review.

Maybe we should start giving out invite codes 🤔

Is anyone out there using a ducking lot of antennae?
How about a butt ton of lists?

I'm up to
61 antennae
&
53 lists

I'm curious if anyone using lots of these features might be having connectivity issues .....
