A lot of people will have seen the recent news about FIDE banning trans players. It will probably be surprising, unsettling, disturbing to most people but after a few days will be out of their thoughts.
As a chess player with trans friends in and out of the chess community, it will be an issue that I'll be closely watching.
In my opinion, it is part of a wider range of non inclusive (bigoted) issues in the chess world. I wrote about it, and have been battling on chess forums for the past 24 hours...

Hehe. Pojawiły się nagrania z prób do #Eurovision2024 i widać, tam też naszą reprezentantkę Lunę z piosenką "The tower". Widać też, że tańczy z kimś, kto strojem przypomina Saurona, ale chyba ma być hetmanem szachowym, zwłaszcza, że w tle są wieże szachowe. Bo wiecie - "wieża" = "tower".
Problem tylko, że w szachach "wieża" to "rook". Jeśli faktycznie taki był zamysł naszej ekipy, to gratuluję xD

Why the hell are #chess tournaments segregated by #gender? I understand (but don't necessarily agree with) gender segregation in #physical#competitions, but there's no #physicality involved in playing chess. #Quadriplegics can play chess just as well as those with all of their faculties. Segregating chess by gender seems completely #arbitrary, and unnecessary.
After playing several rounds of Pokémon Showdown with @buru5, I've come to a conclusion: more online competitive games need epic battle music.
Online chess simulators would do well to add some kind of over-the-top orchestral music in the background, for example. Hopefully they will fix this when Chess 2 comes out.
The boys in my son's grade (elementary school) have firmly established athleticism as the only measure of worth & social standing.
But my kid likes #DnD and #chess and #GameDev and is struggling to fit in. It's hard to explain that this insular school in this small town is not a good barometer of the types of people & personalities he'll meet out there. 😓
